When I refill the system I'm thinking about not going with a 50/50 mix. Instead I might just run pure water and add a bottle of water wetter. The only thing I'm concern with is will the water wetter be able to lube the water pump and T-Stat? If I have to I will run something like a 15% mix, if I go any higher the water wetter is not going to work. Think I could get by with just water wetter and water?

what is your thinking for not going 50/50 ? to save money?

the 50 other than water is there to promote heat transfer amoung other things.

I would suggest going 50/50

I'm in the middle of doing the caprice, you're alot better off just going 50/50...

just use 50/50. water boils at a lower temperature than the mix so you may overheat alot with straight water.

will the water wetter alone be enough to keep you from overheating?

antifreeze does just that... keeps the mix from freezing... water is actually better at heat transfer... that's why we don't run pure antifreeze (plus other reasons)

the radiator cap is what prevents the water from boiling by allowing pressure to build in the system... pressure on water increases the boiling point by 10* per psi... but do not go out and buy the highest psi cap as your system might not be designed for it

however running pure water has no lubrication properties or anti corrosion additives.... so use a mix that the manufacture suggests... and if you cannot determine this use the already suggested 50/50 mix

being cheap now is more expensive later.... do things the right way the first time to avoid correcting problems the wrong way will cause later down the road icon_smile.gif

Crash king is correct. Water actually does a better job of heat transfer. Antifreeze just does exactly what it says, prevent freezing. In my '65 Ford I ran almost exclusively water during the summer and would then drain it and add antifreeze in the winter months.

Waterwetter only increases heat transfer with water. I was gonna run a 15% mix along with the wetter until I did a little research. Turns out water wetter has a nasty habit of mixing with antifreeze and causing it to turn into gunk. I have seen some pics of some nasty overflow tanks that I have made me think twice about going with the wetter. I might try one of problend's products or some new stuff I have heard about called motormax.
