32 dead, atleast 20 injured.

deadliest shooting in U.S. history.

What's wrong with **** people? If your going to kill yourself, don't take 32 people with you.

33 total including the shooter, and since it was two different shooting incidents they're not sure if there is a second shooter involved. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

It is a sad day today. I am glad that the shooter is dead, but that still will not make up for the innocent lives lost today. My sympathy to the families of the dead.

And yea why the heck didn't they do anything about the first shooting?? The article on Yahoo said that nothing was done about the first shooting!!!!! The students weren't told to evacuate the premises or anything!!!!!! And the Virginia Tech president, Charles Steger, said that they believed the gunman had fled the premises, and there was no further danger!!!!!!!! To me that is just bullcrap. People just got shot, and you think there isn't anymore danger?!?!?!?!?!

And one of the dorm's resident assistants just told the students to stay put in their dorms!!!!!!!

I just think that that is crazy. While some may disagree, and say it was safer that way, which i dont see how it would be, the school should have definitely done something about this, IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE FIRST SHOOTING

Very sad day for VT. It makes me look around more and be more aware when walking around campus here. Very tragic.

Gun bill gets shot down by panel
HB 1572, which would have allowed handguns on college campuses, died in subcommittee.
By Greg Esposito
381-1675

A bill that would have given college students and employees the right to carry handguns on campus died with nary a shot being fired in the General Assembly.

House Bill 1572 didn't get through the House Committee on Militia, Police and Public Safety. It died Monday in the subcommittee stage, the first of several hurdles bills must overcome before becoming laws.

The bill was proposed by Del. Todd Gilbert, R-Shenandoah County, on behalf of the Virginia Citizens Defense League. Gilbert was unavailable Monday and spokesman Gary Frink would not comment on the bill's defeat other than to say the issue was dead for this General Assembly session.

Virginia Tech spokesman Larry Hincker was happy to hear the bill was defeated. "I'm sure the university community is appreciative of the General Assembly's actions because this will help parents, students, faculty and visitors feel safe on our campus."

Del. Dave Nutter, R-Christiansburg, would not comment Monday because he was not part of the subcommittee that discussed the bill.

Most universities in Virginia require students and employees, other than police, to check their guns with police or campus security upon entering campus. The legislation was designed to prohibit public universities from making "rules or regulations limiting or abridging the ability of a student who possesses a valid concealed handgun permit ... from lawfully carrying a concealed handgun."

The legislation allowed for exceptions for participants in athletic events, storage of guns in residence halls and military training programs.

Last spring a Virginia Tech student was disciplined for bringing a handgun to class, despite having a concealed handgun permit. Some gun owners questioned the university's authority, while the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police came out against the presence of guns on campus.

In June, Tech's governing board approved a violence prevention policy reiterating its ban on students or employees carrying guns and prohibiting visitors from bringing them into campus facilities.

lorider,

The police didn't close campus because like you stated they thought he fled. They also said they didn't close campus because the murder was in a specific location, that didnt effect the whole school. At least tahts what I heard when the cop said that on TV.

It has been crazy in Virginia all day today. I live in northern Virginia about 2-3 hours from Blacksburg. My sister goes to college in the next county over from Blacksburg and is an EMT. She said that she has been on call waiting all day to see if she needs to head on over there. I don't know the latest up to the minute news but the last thing she said was that President Bush offered to declare it a state of emergency and bring in Federal aid. If that happened then all the counties sorrounding blacksburg would be required to send emergency personel to the area to help out.

We'll see how it goes. Keep them all in your prayers, I know tons of people who go to VTech

EDIT::::

Just read the posts above, and Lordier they DID do something after the first shots were fired. They told all students on campus to barracade themselves in their rooms or classrooms and to not leave for any reason whatsoever. The last I heard was that some thought that it was all over and decided to leave their rooms, and then more shots were fired. If somebody is in the hallways of a dormitory shooting people, it would be highly unreasonable to try and evacuate, and very logical to ask all students to barricade themselves in the rooms they were currently occupying. Also the shooter is dead, but police aren't releasing wether the cops shot him or he shot himself.

if a student there had a pistol permit and was carrying he could have shot and stopped the crazed shooter long before he killed all those people.

and an ak-47 is not something your gonna easily carry concealed.

but just because one incident like this happens..and it could have been stopped with a gun....that doesnt mean that guns should be legal on campus. Wat if you gun gets stolen? What if an idio doesnt put it on safty and shoots himself..what if an idiot drops it and it goes off (and i dont care what or how safe any of yall are..there ARE idiots out there..so I DONT GIVE A **** wat you have to post about how well you can handle your guns)...and What if you just get **** **** off?

I know if i could carry a gun to school..i'd be in jail.

Also, how could they make sure every student who carried a gun had a permit? Stop them everytime you saw them walk by? That wont happen. To be allowed to have a gun on campus is "open campus" for people who dont have permits to bring them on campus easly and cause another situation like this.

What if america was a dictatorship..a lot of bad things would change right? Just cuz one bad thing could have been changed by one thing being differnt..doesn't mean that it works and is best for all situations...right?

anyway..if your gonna like..respond to this..dont..k thanks icon_smile.gif

P.S. VA school, the families of the victims, and all school children and adults everywhere are in everyones prayers tonight, and if not everyones, mine for sure. If you knew someone that went their, sorry, if you knew someone that died..very sorry.

You can't stop them from being ABLE to do it.

Only from being ALLOWED to do it.

(Just like no one is ALLOWED to murder 32 defenseless victims.....right?)

People who physically attack innocents are criminals. Criminals, by the very DEFINITION of the word, are those who disobey laws. Therefore, you can pass all the laws you want, and that STILL won't stop a single determined homicidal maniac.

(but a few well-placed shots will)

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that the guy with the AK-47 wasn't in full compliance with the rules......see my point?

the point is...

not every person is a maniac that is going to do anyting to bring a gun on campus

most people...wont bring a gun on campus because of the consequences.

TRUST ME...if it was allowed..i'd have a gun with me all the time at school, amd so would alot of people..but because it isnt allowed, most people are dettered..as opposed to none..

"see my point?"

We trust people with cars, don't we?

The last time I checked, more people have been killed by cars than by guns every year since somewhere around 1923.....

Most people who shoot guns for a hobby are responsible.

Your gun would be in your holster.

Sane people wont shoot people because they're **** off.

If a police officer see a holster, they can ask you to see your license to conseal.

If people could conceal guns, it would make a better situation. There would be a hell of a lot less people dead.

The gunmen shot them execution style; every one lined up as he shot them. One would be able to pull a gun on him as he lined everybody up.

Not everyone with guns are murderes.

You'll meet some of the nicest people at shooting ranges.

What about the consequences of NOT having one?

Look, I understand your point of view.

I just don't think that you can wrap your mind around the concept that there are truly EVIL people out there, and a lot of them can't/won't be reasoned with. They must be STOPPED.

if guns cause so much crime then how come gunshops are not robbed on an hourly basis?

perhaps because the employees and most of the customers are ARMED?

and ive gotten very **** off before and im sitting within 5 feet of 2 shotguns and a rifle and yet i havent shot anybody.

I hate how people think it's the guns that cause the crime and kill people. Guns don't kill, the person behind it does.

You, sir, are not whom I am worried about, nor am I in disagreement with.

Frankly I'm more comfortable around you and your pistol icon_biggrin.gif
