hey maybe someone can shine some light on my problem. I have a 12 inch optix neon that i had mounted under my dash but i decided to move it under my seat. so tonight I cut the wire and added enough extra wire to get the neon in position were i want it. so i connect the wires and flip my switch and BAM! a whole lot of nothin happend. So thinking it must just be one of my connections I cut the wire nuts off closest to the neon and re-strip the wires and in my brightest moment i connect the wires <while touching the the bare connections> and flip the switch BZZZZZZZZ! i get shocked but half of the neon did light up so i know that I have power getttin to it, is it that there is not enough power getting to it? should i just redo all my connections or does the fact that the neon is lighting up mean that there is power but somethin wrong with the neon?

you cant extend the wires between the neon and transformer. neons are very touchy on that

neon's usually have transformer built in... unless they're slim-line

It's a real cheap ass neon. It'd be best to just save up for some cathodes.

yea, did you extend the wires from the transformer to the neon or the switch to the transformer? It is a 12" so from what i know it has a separate transformer.

sucess, it was my connections, one of the ground wires was pulled out of the wire nut, so i re-did them all and it works, but i have another problem, when i turn it on it will all light up, but not very bright, after a few minutes of driving it will get to its full brightness, and yes it is an optx slimline 12'' with seperate transformer and i cut it between the transformer and the neon

use thicker wire... recheck ground connection... make sure all the pain is scraped off wherever it's grounded... run grould directly to the frame and not all the way to the battery... despite popular believe ground is more important... electricity flows from (-)NEGATIVE (abundance of electrons) to (+) POSITIVE (lack of electrons)

ok im posting on this topic again, i have just redone all of the connections, found a better ground, made sure every thing was in tip top shape and when i hit the switch, only a small amount of the neon will light (like 1") i have to run my hand along the tube a few times, sometimes even tap the plastic ends of it to get it to light and even then it still is dim. any other suggestions? dbismyname said that i can't extend the wires from the transformer to the neon. Before i tear all my trim off <its 8 degrees here, and school was canceled at lunch because a storm is on the way> id like to know why you cant do that, it happend to my friend <sickness, on this forum> and he had to solder them back together on his cathodes.

at above 10,000 volts, and such a low current that the neons use, it connot sustain it's power enough to travel far lengths... or deal with crappy connections... try soldering...

it's like trying to hook up a fire hose to your garden spicket... there's just not enough pressure to take it along way....

exactly what he said. you should never mess with the wire between the tube and tranny. but since you already have, try soldering the connection and if that doesnt work then put it back to normal length and then solder it. thats what i had to do with one of mine that i bought offline and it was already cut
