I have talked to Phil about this thread, said it was cool.

So I'm just wondering where everyone stands on presidential outlooks. I'm by far a democrat, but there is a Republican who caught my eye.

Ron Paul(http://www.ronpaul2008.com/)

Check him out..

I'll see how things go for him, and what he says in the coming months - but defe. seems real and down to earth.[/youtube]

Somebody on the Democratic Ticket for me.....

Although Sen. Fred Thompson looks good for the republicans I mean hey. If slow and steady wins the race, imagine what semi-conscious and immobile could do?

OMG, I just ran across this

Stephen Colbert may run for president.
http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003657754

Quote:
NEW YORK Appearing on Larry King's CNN show Thursday night, Stephen Colbert was accused by the host of using the publication of his new book as a platform to run for president. Colbert happily confirmed this, saying that he would likely seek the nomination from both parties.

When King said this was a "cop out," Colbert, host of his own talk show, The Colbert Report on Comedy Central, said that it actually demonstrated true "courage" because "I could lose twice."

But he would still consider a double campaign: "I'd let the people decide what party I belong in, Larry. I don't dictate the people's actions."

He said he might run on a state by state basis, perhaps starting in his native state, South Carolina, as a "favorite son."

He would not say that he was unimpressed by the current crop of candidates -- but did allow that Fred Thompson's campaign slogan should be, "Do Not Disturb."

When King had asked, with a thumb pointing up, if he planned to run for the top office, Colbert said, "You mean God? No, go down one notch."

He explained that this might be only a "test run" and "Obviously, every boy has thought of it."

But he also disclosed that he really is two different people, Stephen Colbert and-- Stephen Colbert. So it was impossible to say which one was thinking of throwing his hat in the ring -- at least in South Carolina.

Asked if he would accept the second spot on a ticket, he replied: "You know who has actually offered me a vice-presidential slot? This is in all seriousness. He has come on my show three times and each time he offered it to me: Huckabee. Governor Huckabee offered me on the show and when a certain other person named Hannity on a different network asked him who he liked on this person's show he actually said I already made a promise to Stephen Colbert." So, "tit-for-tat," he would have to make Huckabee his running mate.

Colbert also allowed: "I'm deeply, deeply weird." His book is titled "I Am America (and So Can You!)."

UPDATE. A press release this afternoon sent to E&P titled "ETV, South Carolina's Public Television Network, Invites Native-Son Colbert to Kick-off Pres. Bid On Its Air," follows.
*

While all the political buzz on Friday was whether the new recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, Al Gore, will be making a bid for the presidency, the real story is that humorist, talk-show host and author Stephen Colbert might well be turning a new page on his career with a run for the presidency on behalf of both parties.

On Thursday night, Colbert told CNN's Larry King that "there is something I can offer the campaign on a state-by-state basis."

When asked what state he would choose to kick off his trial-run campaign, Colbert answered, "I am a native of South Carolina ...It seems like a natural place to start."

As South Carolina's only statewide media outlet, boasting 11 television and eight radio stations, ETV is extending an offer to Colbert to formally begin his campaign on its air. This affords him the important opportunity to reach his Palmetto State neighbors at one fell swoop.

If you guys didn't know Stephen Colbert is actually a democrat.... At least that's what I got from a "Newsweek" article about him a while back. He acts completely different off of his show, now weather he would run the country the same way he acts on his show is a different question. Hopefully he would run things the way he REALLY feels.

Not that he'd ever win anyways....

Well...seeing as how it'll be my boss I'm going to say a male Republican. Democrats will try to cut our pay and take us out of war which is bad for business. Well...my business anyway.

Never had it put that way, nice point. I can see your position on that.

Good luck with that.... No offense or anything but I don't see it happening after Bush.

Justin, you cant be serious about voting for Obama. I seriously hope you reconsider.

And for those voting because of party status, don't bother voting at all.

Ron Paul is a libertarian republican, and is the only candidate that is talking about the REAL issues at hand. He wants to pull out troops, not only from Iraq, but the entire world where we do not BELONG and keep them here in the states, defending our boarder and leaving other countrys to protect their own borders. He wants to put money into the education system, keep illegals out of the country, and most importantly rule by the CONSTITUTION. It's been a long, LONG time since we had a president who voted strictly for the constitution and I have a feeling Ron Pauls is our last chance before we start rolling down the other side of the hill faster then we are now.

I am undecided at the moment. In the last election I voted democrat and my family has always voted democrat, but I'm gonna wait and see who is left when voting time comes around.

Here is a little cross sectional on candidates and issues. I bookmarked this a while back so that I could reference when the time comes. http://www.2decide.com/table.htm

And thats the exact reason I'm considering. I dont fully agree with what republicans believe or stand for - but now its do or die time.

So many people don't even know what the candidates believe. They just go out and vote, democrat or republican. This is about the dumbest way to vote, you might as well flip a coin. If you don't know about the candidates, don't vote. Educate yourself before you vote.

Yea, who wants a president that votes on what the Constitution says?

Not that it has anything to do with it, but Obama has I think an even slimmer chance then Ron Paul does. A Muslim President in the US? I doubt it. A BLACK President in the US? I doubt that even more. Has nothing to do with my views and opinions of him, his policy's are ridiculous and he wants to take away our constitutional rights not to mention give all these poor lazy jokers a free ride.

FWIW: "Hussein" Obama was raised Catholic.

Ron Paul is a long shot. I am sick of reading about everyone rallying behind him, because of that reason. Props to him, though, for sticking to the constitution. Someone needs to. He is still a long shot.

Honestly? OK, you asked for it.

I'd vote Hillary all the way. I'd try and vote TWICE if they did a Clinton/Obama ticket.

Why?

Well, because if the idea of a WOMAN president sends all the male chauvinists into fits, and the idea of a BLACK president makes all the redneck asswipes froth at the mouth, then a WOMAN/BLACK ticket might just make a sizable chunk of the population (read as: the ones that got good ol' Dubbya re-elected, sending us deeper into the never-ending **** pile that is the Middle East) drop dead of a massive stroke.

I can only pray...

Let's face it... After 8 years of the Republican Party's gross (I'd go so far as to say criminal) mismanagement of every facet of our government, from foreign policy to illegal wire-tapping to encroaching of the government into out civil rights (Torture? The Patriot Act?) there's simply no way that a moderate candidate will ever be able to get elected or to run the country in the partisan hell that will be 2008-2012. All we can hope for is someone with enough idealism and/or shrewd political acumen that can SURVIVE the next 4 years, and hopefully help to begin extracting us from Iraq in that time. Hillary, as much as I think the woman is a manipulative bee-yotch, certainly has the political chops and a years-old political machine to bolster her, and Obama has the idealism, the kind that gets people fired up (especially young people) in ways I've not seen in many years...

Of course, things are already starting to get so nasty in this election cycle that, IMHO, I'm starting to think that Obama's best bet at this point is to NOT get the Presidential nomination next year, but instead to hold out for 2012 or 2016... That way, the poor sucker gets handed the Iraq debacle (and who's poliical career is ruined by association) can bow out, opening the door for Obama to step in with clean(er) hands... We'll see.

Basically, I'm sick of anyone that says with a straight face that a person's religion or skin color or even what they have down the front of their pants makes ANY DIFFERENCE to how poorly or well they can govern. After all, if that mattered, then a WHITE PROTESTANT MALE that thinks he gets DIRECTIONS STRAIGHT FROM GOD would be the perfect leader.... Well, I hate to tell you, but we have that now, and, well... things ain't perfect. Honestly, if you're not COMPLETELY **** OFF then you're siimply not paying attention.

Maybe it's time to see how a woman or a black man can lead, because white guys ain't cutting the mustard lately, not by a damn sight...

That shows some real individuality and focus on values huh? biglaugh.gif

Honestly, listening to pork probably has much more merit than a lot of other people's opinions on why they voted for whomever.
