I've googled it, and alll the programs I come up with there freeze. I need to rip REAL DVD's to my computer to DIVX? How do I do this? The program has to be free also.

Use DVD Decrypter to get the VOB file to your hard drive.

Use auto GK knot to convert the VOB file to avi.

Both are free programs, DVD Decrypter may be hard to find... if you need any more help with them, let me know, I can get you screencaps of the settings I use and whatnot.

iSofter. It rips a DVD to your hard drive in whatever format you choose. It's not free but if you PM me there could be a way to not pay.

I'll give those first 2 suggestions a try when I get back from work. If they don't do what I want, then I'll hit you up, Pwrrngr. These are DVD's that I OWN, so nothing illegal is going on at all. (Thats a first for OZ)

I've been using DVD Decrypter to convert DVD's to Ipod.. Works wonders maintaining quality. And does it fast.

http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod/guide/dvd-to-ipod/

There's a walk through to bring it down to one file. You don't want it in segments because you'll have multiple AVIs for each movie.

I'm acutally converting my DVD's to AVI's right now.. it's a bit slower then I'd like, but it's getting the job done. I'm bringing them all the way down to 700mb, because my ultimate goal is to make converting them to Ipod format easier. at 700mb they're acceptable to watch, but if you want great quality I'd keep the AVI's as big as possible.

So let's pretend that I have, and own, a DVD copy of let's say "SHOOTER".

But it broke. Where's a good place to download DVD movies, for free? If you suggest bitTorrents, what program do you use?

Please keep topic to converting files over that are LEGALLY obtained....Itz...best way to replace a broken one is to BUY a new copy...

there are other ways...but please use PM and do not post on the boards regarding copyright material.

Thanks Guys icon_cool.gif

In the settings of DVD Dycripter you can make it so it's only one VOB file.

I'm going to work on the assumption that you're going to be using Auto GK to convert to AVI.

Here's how you need to set up DVD Decrypter:

First, put it to IFO mode:

General settings:

IFO settings (where you tell it not to split files, among other things):

The other tabs, such as 'sounds' have things you may want to change (I turned the sounds off), but they won't effect your results. I'd suggest not messing with things you don't know what they are... the other 'mode' tabs are irrelevant since you're using IFO mode, so don't even bother with those at all.

I use RipIt4me..... uses DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink but does it all for you.... This however does NOT convert to avi, I just use it to back up DVDs.

Since we are talking about converting to AVI, I am wondering if you guys have anything good for converting MPEG-2 (Recorded TV programs), to XVID (AVI). I have used SUPER, TMPNG, and a few others, but they either don't compress it enough, or destory quality. Basically I want my 1 hr TV program to be about 300-350megs, like you can download online. However anytime I compress them that far I lose tons of picture quality. Anyone have any good programs to do this??? Right now the best I can do is about 1gig per hour of TV at a good quality.....

What version do you have? The one I have is the newest one, which is somewhat old, as the program is no longer being developed.

Oh... that's a totally different program... if you can't figure it out, see if you can find plain ol' dvd decrypter... if you can't, and want it, lemme know, I've got the installer.

It's an excellent tool for one who has many hard to find DVD's. I'm converting a lot of them to AVI so I don't have to use 500gb to back up my movie collection.

Awesome icon_smile.gif

I first started ripping all of my DVDs because of college, I didn't want to keep all of my movies at school, so I'd rip them, keep them on my external drive, and take the disc home. Living at home now, I don't have as much a need, and I've stopped bothering with it.

I use clonedvd because dvd decrypter doesnt do all movies. Only thing is that it costs money (for those that still do that)

Netflix + DVD ripping = awesome.

Just thought I'd share, not that I've done it or anything...
