An often-neglected part of the car is the black plastic and rubber trim. Depending on what car you have, this can mean a simple black bumper all the way up to full fenders and perimeter trim. NO matter how much you clean or wax, if you have faded, dry-looking or cracked trim, your car just will NOT be show-worthy - it's the details that matter.

Black WOW, from Show Car Detailing is a re-conditioner/protectant that, according to its product page:

"will remove caked on and years of wax and polish residue from the trim and restore them to better than new condition. Black Wow is a combination cleaner and dressing, which means that it will permanently remove residue from the plastic, and at the same time darken and protect it. Black Wow is better and longer lasting than oil or water based dressings, we use only the highest and most expensive grade of silicones available."

I bought a bottle of this stuff last summer for my MINI (which has extensive black plastic trim) and I STILL have 9/10 of a bottle left. You really do only use a pea-sized dot for several linear FEET of trim - just work it in.

After I did my new MINI I used this on my classic Mini Cooper's interior switch panel - the plastic there was faded by years of sun and neglect to a pale, mealy gray, and a single swipe with WOW turned it glossy black again. Awesome. I've also used this on all my engine bay blac plastic (hoses, the supercharger intercooler cover, etc.) and it holds up to heat awesome.

If you have ANY plastic, vinyl or rubber on your car, do yourself a favor and get a bottle of this stuff - it'll last you basically forever and it really works.

Just use it sparingly - if it looks "wet" it will actually attract dirt. Just use a tiny dot on a foam applicator and keep rubbing - you'll be amazed how long that dot will stretch...

My wiper shroud is black plastic (like 99% of all wiper shrouds out there) and it is fading.

On previous cars I would fix that by removing the shroud and going through the whole process of painting it black (correctly), but it will be way better to just rejuvenate the OEM plastic, for obvious reasons.

I've tried Mother's "Back to Black" before, and it was ok, but I really think I'll be trying out some Black Wow. It seems a little pricey, but when one drop can be spread so thin, you can't really complain icon_smile.gif

Yeah - it's good for wipers, trim, shrouds... basically anything black. I saw the creator use some on some black wiper stalks last summer and they looked new. they were so dry and sun-faded that the owner had to apply a second timea few days later (the plastic drank in the material), but the second coat stayed black. This is what happened on my Mini swirtches too - the first coat got them blackER, and the second coat was true black. If you use too much, let it sit for 5-10 minutes and wipe off the excess with a cloth. be sure to SCRUB it into the plastic, so it fills any texture.

And yeah, it's not CHEAP, but unless you detail cars for a living that bottle will last you for, like, a DECADE if you don't over-apply the product.

I just realized my favorite place autogeek.net will give you three foam applicators for free when you order Black Wow, and usually you can get 10% off of your order using the promo code "clubmember". :)

Nice, great idea. I keep all of my car wash/detailing things in a box, in a shelf, in the garage.

I just placed an order for Black Wow through autogeek. I'm anxious to get home to hear the wife start complaining icon_biggrin.gif biglaugh.gif

I used four pea sized drops to do the entire mini .... Awesome stuff , It lasts months even with washing the trim still beads ...
If it still looks wet you can wipe it down with some quick detailer and a microfiber ...

Yeah - I generally use a standard UV-opaque vinyl dressing for my regular washings, and only break out the WOW every season or so - it's really too much for everyday cleaning (even though it would last forever).

If you need a good general-use vinyl dressing, Detailers Paradise makes a great UV Protectant, called Nero, that's great for everyday cleaning/dusting. I even use it on my console and stereo - I just lightly mist one of those cheapie gray foam brushes (you can get like 6 for a dollar at a hardware place), and use the chisel-tip to get into all the cracks in my vents, stereo, etc. Using Nero atop WOW seems to not hurt it whatsoever.

Those are the exact pads I use. I still have the one that came with my WOW - they hold up well.

Hardly have any black plastic trim, and it's far from fading at this point...but did just order a 'genuine' Jap tag from the site TRogers recommended, thanks for the promo code. #69 text SCION

Happy birthday in a few days btw, saw the notification thing on myspace and I know I'll forget between now and then.

Thanks Shaq.

I tried some of this stuff out under the hood and my plastic just drank it up...BUT it looks amazing now. After the initial application I'm sure I won't have to use as much.

Great product, Thanks ImagoX!

It's pretty much what this stuff is made for, it should do wonders.

By the way, I noticed yesterday that the bottle says you can use it on ANY unpainted plastic surface.

*shrug*

ICE polish works pretty well for this as well. Definitely gets it clean and shiny, but the shine doesn't last forever. Probably have to re-use every few washes.

I wouldn't use it any place that you TOUCH - like a dash. Not only would it be greasy, but it'd be too shiny for my tastes. Use something like Detailers Paradise's NERO for that - it dried more matte than shiny (which looks good in the cabin) and has UV protectant.

But the WOW is great anyplace on the exterior. Never used it on non-black, unpainted stuff though - if you use it this way, be sure to take before and after pics!
