(I'm not new to oznium... I just had to make a new screen name. I used to own the only 2001 Nissan Frontier in the Oznium Gallery, but that was a while back.)
Now, I finally got my dream car. What do you think so far? Anyone with any ideas on what I should do with it? (for the larger origional pictures... check the Gallery) |

The 5.0 are really strong motors with a lot of potential. Stock, they make some ok power. But put a little effort into them and they'll make some serious power. As you'll soon find out (if you haven't already), Ford transmissions are crap and will go out. Nice buy.

Very nice man that is a nice car.
PwrRngr guess you buy the wrong frods LOL. Foci have some of the strongest transmissions available when they came out from 2000-2007 |

I wouldn't say Mustangs are slow ass hell, but I wouldn't say they are fast as hell either (I'm talking stock). I ran a 14.138 bone stock; the potential is there. With bolt-ons and gears it's EASY for a Mustang to make high 12's. Put a little money in them and they are very quick cars. Yeah Robbie, almost all Mustangs have crappy transmissions. That's ok w/ me though. At least Mustang owners know what's going to break when something does break. |

yea i meant stock. A stock 5.0 is slow ass balls, i hate to say it but its the truth. With some bolts they really wake up |

well... It's an everyday driver. I've taken care of the breathing (intake and exhaust)... and It's pretty fast. I'm 100% possitive that the internals of the engine are not stock. The guy that I bought it from has since passed away... So, I cant tell by looking at what has been done. My regular mechanic said that it cant have the stock cam in it because of the way that it "lopes" at idle. It kinda rocks back and forth slightly at red lights. I guess thats whats he's talking about.
Anyone know a way that I can tell. When I looked up the engine block serial number... I found out that it is a crate motor. Is that good, or bad? |

oh yeah.... the guy that I bought it from showed me a ticket from him racing it at noproblem raceway in louisiana... and it ran 13.4. So... that isnt very fast, but it isnt slow either, right?

Got a vid?? I know there is a focus (i know different car) but it's a 2.3 SVT stroker custom. The thing lopes because of the cam setup he is running it's sick. And if it's a crate motor depending those things can be pretty bad ass.

All bullcrap aside... what does the term "crate motor" really mean? I mean... I know that its not the original engine, but... what am I working with? Anyone shed some light on this?

Crate engines are aftermarket engines that can still be designed by OEM (in this case Ford Racing). |

Depends, from an typical import stand point that is fast. Compared to most modern V8's that is average. |

13.4 isn't slow at all. Like Cerwin said, from a modern V8 it's about average (maybe a LITTLE above). But from a 92, that's pretty good (obviously the engine isn't from 92, but that's the closes I can guess). If you're running that w/ only intake, exhaust, and cam then it's got a lot more potential. If it doesn't already have new gears, throw those in. While it won't increase the HP, you will FEEL a world of difference. So much more acceleration. |

Thanks for the warm welcome back. I dont think that many remember me... it has been a while since I've been on here, but oh well. Im back! So... are you being sarcastic when you say "SNAIL" power? Or is that some kind of preformance part that I know nothing about (which is probably the case)? On a scale of 1-10... how hard is it to install "bolt on" power? Am I going to be able to drive it everyday if I do go in that preformance direction? (I figured PoRk would have something to say on this one... Where are you PoRk?) |

Bolt on is just like it sounds, they pretty much bolt on. The basics are CAI, Exhaust, Tune, Gears, Throttle Body, Pulleys, and that's about it. All of those could be put on in a day.
