I just ordered a ton of different bonsai plant seeds and misc. tools needed to care for said seeds. I've always been a plant guy and have been reading into bonsai for a few weeks. Anyone have any bonsai or experience with bonsai?

i had one when i was like 13, they are expensive to buy pregrown and require you to submerse the plant to water it, i guess its pretty labor intensive for a plant but they are damn kool

labor intensive is why i'm interested in it. having any kind of plant, to me at least, is useless if all you do is sit it in a corner and water it only when you happen to think about it and are drinking a glass of water at the same time.

It will take forever to grow. A decent size one(like from karate kid) is like 80 years old.

Different species grow at different rates. Some will reach a foot or so within a few years. It also depends on how much you prune them.

Is it possible to be racist against your own race?
Calling me racist for the stereotype I mentioned is going a bit overboard don't ya think?

Assumptive? I think I made a VERY accurate statement. If I said the following I would be a racist:
"Typical black person, Black people will pay a ton of money for anything"

But on a serious note, I don't really care. Kwonrae, I don't really care about the statement. I brought it up more to show the double standard on white people.

Just remember bonsai have really limited root structure and usually aren't planted in very much soil . Its much much easier to underwater them then to overwater them . So if you're having difficulty deciding exactly how much water is enough its always better to err on the side of caution and go with more water . Submersion is one way of watering the pot, as someone mentioned, but its not necessary . Keep it out of hot/dry areas like window sills with a lot of direct sunlight and above warm appliances like TVs that dry out the air . And be positive the species you have will tolerate growing indoors; most bonsai need to be outdoors but shielded from too much direct sunlight . Then you can bring them in when you have company or a couple days a week or something to make the inside look nice .

http://bonsaisite.com/seeds.html

They are just tree seeds.... they call them Bonsai seeds so they can charge you more.

I'm Japanese so I know =D. < Racist? >

OMG.... $10,000 Bonsai Tree. http://www.lousbonsai.biz/content-product_info/...imen_tree_by_lousbonsai_biz.html

Yes, Bonsai is an art.... not a type of tree. To be truly immersed you should start growing your own. You use wires to shape the tree before it starts to mature. Wiring the tree is what gives the Bonsai Trees shape.

The rest of it is just meticulously trimming, pruning, watering, fertilizing and envisioning what your tree will look like. It might sound corny.... but watch Karate Kid. Mr.Miyagi gives a great explantion on Bonsai Trees.

And here I am, thinking that this spiritual tree only exists on the sides of the steepest mountains Chinda has to offer. Where in order to become a man, one of these precious spruces could only be attained by disapearing into the wilderness for weeks.

Wearing nothing more than a sumo thong, shoes that look like something that the foot clan would wear and carrying a rusty pair of nunchucks your great uncle passed on to you.

When a simple virtual visit to bonsaiboy.com could supply you with the same tree for $100 shipped to your door.
