I'd try sporting stores myself... it's a self defense item so that'd make sense to me.

When I used to carry (as a bouncer downtown), I got mine from a uniform shop. They sold handcuffs, batons, belts, holsters, police and security uniforms, etc.

I used to carry a 25ft foam OC.

I always carried Venom , It's a foam spray with Dye , you hit someone with it they were dyed smurfy blue ... The foam sticks well to the face and has more encapulated in the foam , as you claw at it it releases more

Depends on the application.

Foam doesn't burn as much as spray...

I like foam, because you don't have to have great aim to hit the target, and if they are wearing goggles or glasses it makes it hard for them to see. If they take them off, it will expose their eyes.

Here's something else to keep in mind, depending where you buy it, it will be weak ass pansy ****. Try to score the police or military grade stuff. Most places require you to be licensed (I had to be) to carry high-grade stuff.

If you can't get the good stuff, I'd save your money. The stuff you buy at wal-mart won't do anything.

McCook should pop in here sometime soon, he should have some insight (as I'm sure he's been sprayed with it too).

You might need a FID card or a chemical spray card depending on your state/county/city. If you get one then you can go to gun shops and purchase it. In Ma. it's pretty much only sold @ gun shops and self defense dojos. The dojos that do the rape victim prevention classes and stuff normally have it.

Been sprayed with it and, more importantly, have used it on people who were in a mood to fight.

When it comes to irritant sprays, you have 3 basic formulations (CS, CN and OC) and 3 delivery modes (fog, stream and foam).

CS is military tear gas. It makes the eyes water, the skin burn, and the snotworks shift into overdrive.

CN is the original Mace. It's an irritant, same as CS.

OC is pepper spray. In addition to the crying, burning, and snot flowing freely, it irritates the mucous membranes, causing them to swell -- IF it reaches them.

.....and that's where the delivery mode comes in.

Go with the fog. Not the stream, not the foam, but the fog. Because THAT's the one that gives you the respiratory effects, just about every time.

The advantage of the stream or foam is greater targeting ability. They resist wind better, punching through to their intended target. Stream and foam have an address label on them that reads, "YOUR left eye, *******". The one on fog reads, "To Whom It May Concern".

....but the little woman isn't going to have to pick one ******* out of a mob to put down. And she's not going to have to wrestle him into handcuffs later. Nor does she need to think about decontamination. What she needs is something that's most likely to take the most fight out of the ******* right away.

.....and that's OC, in the fog form. Because it's the only one that Billy Badass will INHALE, even if it isn't sprayed DIRECTLY into his nose or mouth.

And with that, I recommend an OC fog spray from one of two manufacturers: Fox Labs, or Punch.

If you want something a little less obvious than a simple spray can, I know of two other very interesting products.

ASP makes their Key Defender. It's basically a kubaton, with a keyring, that doubles as an OC dispenser.

Tigerlight makes a small but very bright flashlight, with a strobe mode, that also houses an OC dispenser.

Walking through a parking lot with either of those things in hand, she'll be ready to use it in an instant, and they'll never see it coming.

I agree with MCCOOK....having been sprayed with OC and regular pepper spray for civilian use I would have to recommend OC spray...

I carry Foam OC when on duty....terrible stuff and will make ya wanna gouge your eyes out...feels like a flamethrowing in your face unless you dunk your head for about 20-30 minutes straight after exposure...The foam is nice when you are trying to cut down on exposure to people other than your subject....but like MC stated, the fog is just TERRIBLE stuff because unlike the foam, you can't wipe it away and it gets down into your lungs causing respiratory problems.

OC in Fog form will do wonders to anyone that get a spray....just inform your wife that if she gets that stuff on her or gets a secondary exposure or contact exposure to get to cold water and fast....

After a number of attacks on hikers and campers in Alaska, the Department of Fish & Game released the following advisory:

We advise that outdoorsmen wear noisy little bells on their clothing so as not to startle bears. We also advise outdoorsmen to carry pepper spray with them in case of an encounter with a bear. It is also a good idea to watch out for fresh signs of bear activity.

Outdoorsmen should recognize the difference between Black Bear and Grizzly Bear droppings. Black bear droppings are smaller and contain lots of berries and squirrel fur. Grizzly bear droppings have little bells in it and smell like pepper.
