Greetings all. icon_lol.gif Newbe on the board here. I have a lighting question. I ordered RGB ozzy_change.gif led strips. There is a controler to operate the lights. There is also a DMX controler. What is the difference?

DMX is a lighting standard used for a lot of large/professional lighting installations like theater products and concerts . It uses devices and controllers networked together with data cables to make a network where everything can be centrally controlled .

A generic "RGB controller" (non-DMX) is usually a simple box where you have a power input on one side and an RGB output on the other that goes directly to your LEDs . The controls are built into the box and features vary but it usually lets you select color and brightness, and many have a basic color-fade or rainbow-sequence type feature .

In short, if you're planning to do a simple RGB installation in your vehicle or illuminate a piece of furniture at home, the RGB controller is a much less expensive and straight forward way to go . DMX is more expensive and complicated but you can create complex multi-zone installations with more advanced features and programming . If you don't -need- the DMX features for your installation, there's no reason to go the expense of using DMX controllers . icon_biggrin.gif
