I was upset after work and when I'm upset I usually drive like an ass - but today I was cautious because of the rain. My tires are bald as ****, and well bald tires + rain = hydroplane

And thats exactly what happened. I'm goign around 60 on the interstate and this jag off driving his 4X4 SUV is swerving through traffic and flys past me - only to slow down and cut me off because of traffic ahead of me. I smash teh brake since the guy comes within inches of taking my entire front clip off - and thus my traciton control features kick in. As you all know - this stuff only works when the car is in driving condition. Because of the condition of my tires - it made the whole situation 10 times worse. I kept control of my car for almost 6 seconds - swerving slightly. The jack ass panicks and cuts me off AGAIN and I totally lose it - sliding in front of a semi and across 2 other lanes of traffic before i get to teh side of the road. By the time its over - I slid atleast 100 yards and foudn myself 20 feet up a grassy slope along the side of the interstate. Dan - you will see this mess on your way to work in the morning if you are reading this.

So here we are,
The good: ! I didnt hit anything to cause direct damage to the actual body of the car.
! I didn't hurt myself or anyone else ( considering if that guy would have stopped - I would have killed him )
! I didn't pop any tires

The bad: ! My car is scratched and chipped to **** on both sides from the extreme amounts of rocks / sticks / small trees that littered the sides of the interstate
! I am ****
! My car is sad
! My underbody lights - one of teh zip ties broke so I gotta use another one!!!!!!!!!!!! icon_confused.gif
! I have to make a decesion

The decesion being a.) report it to insurance and shave everything - repaint it with that money but have to deal with higher rates or b.) dont report it - drive it looking like **** and give up

Obiviously easy decesion - answer being a. BUT I dont think I can afford a higher premium. I'm in a slump and I'm having trouble cheering up, so I thought I would vent. If you want to say something stupid - please refrain for I may rip you a new e-******* icon_evil.gif

i'm a tad confused by your options, there seems to be one missing...

don't claim it (you're under 21 and thus insurance is gonna rape you with yearly payment hikes), take the money that you would be paying insurance and use it to fix your shyt... icon_cool.gif

i noticed your tires at the dells.

i really think you should get new ones.

i'm not sure if they are supposed to be that way, or they are just bald.
either way, i'd get new ones.

What money that I would be paying insurance? That makes no sence - the way insurance works is they give YOU money to fix yoru car - you dont give them money besides your monthly premium.

SOrry man i know how you feel. Being stuck in a rut with no where to go except the way you don't want to go. Like me I got money for my old car but I HAD to spend more money, which I didn't want to do, to buy a car in the same if not better condition then when i bought my first Accord. So now I'm back in debt and with a littl ebit better car and lower mileage. Don't worry once you get over it you, everything will work out for the better unless it takes you three months to get it fixed or replaced or whatever you plan on doing, yeah htat right it took me three months to find a new car, that drove me nuts, well let me get off my soap box so you can get off of your own. I hope you have better luck than I did with mine. You may even try to claim it on some kind on hit and run or uninsureed motorist stuff.

I know I need new tires - I was told my my pops and uncle that they would last a few more months. I was in the process of ordereding 19's earlier today. Now that this has happened - I definatly need paint.

Also remember you will probably have to pay a deductible if you claim the insurance. The lower the deductible the higher the monthly premium, the higher the deductible the lower the monthly premium...it's a balancing act between how much you save and how often you get into accidents...

I've haven't gotten into any major accidents, but when I **** up my tires/wheels/alignment on new years eve a couple years ago I ended up not claiming the insurance because of a) the deductible was pretty close to the cost of the repair and b) it would have raised my premium. Same thing with a cracked windshield (no idea how it cracked too).

Look at how much it will cost to repaint the car, what your deductible is, how much your rates will go up, etc.

edit: oh yeah, be very thankful you weren't injured, or worse...

You are extremely lucky that you didn't get hurt. Usually all the accidents I see on the Interstate are fatal. And I can't really help you decide what to do about insurance all that. I don't really know much about that. icon_redface.gif

Somebody on SG said you could do the painting yourself, and have a paint gun, etc.

If that's the case, your only expense would be paint and supplies....maybe $500.

Wow...guess you've never seen Porky's DIme...it's HOUSE OF KOLOR marbleized....that costs a lil more than $150 in paint.

Pork - What's the deal with work...where do u work? Anyway...the car-- i think u should file the claim and shave that bish smooooth. Paint it like a crazy mofo and be happy with a better looking car. You know you can't drive it all scratched up. I hope it goes ok though. Don't worry, be happy! icon_biggrin.gif

imo.... wait.. drive it around like it is untill you get enough money to paint it. Surely you don't go driving around during the day besides work or to the store, so you only go out at night and you prob. can't see it at night. If you have some touch up paint, i would do that and drive it around for about 3 months till it gets fixed.

edit: i'm guessing you didn't get the guys license plate #??

ok, so i forgot what i was going to say b/c of the loading time iof the reply box (how about a quick reply box phil?)

i think i was going to say something about how i just got a new job that pays ~$300 a week, so now i too will be able to afford stuff for my car (paint which i'll prob be doing myself even if it is just primerin)...then i was going to say somethin about hwo i didn't drive my car since feb or so just because of the alternator and i'm too stingy to take it to a shop. so guess what i did that myself too partly b/c i find it more fulfilling to be like "hey, look what i did" pork you might be able to relate w/ that feeling.ok, since i forgot what else i was going to say, i'm going to end this post

150 for paint? Maaco uses more expensive paint then that for christ sakes - and just teh clear coat alone would cost twice that. Y our prces are bogus Jason icon_confused.gif

And I will most likely be doing it myself - but thats still a hell of alot of time that I really dont have. And still - you guys act like 1000 bucks aint ****. I dont have 1000 bucks - I had 400 saved up for wheels but it looks like that will be going for a deductable. I dunno what I am gonna do yet - but either way I am looking at rear suicides and a full shave

Pork, what's more important? Your life, or how your car looks? Maybe that will help you decide on new wheels, or money towards the deductible. Do both if you can.. borrow some cash for the deductible from your parents. I'm sure they'll be a little more understanding on that issue then you needing the money for lighting or something =P

I tell people time and time again and they never listen. Your tires are more important than anything else on your car. Don't go discount on your tires, and don't put off replacing your tires when they are getting bald. You should never let them get past the wear bar. My friend totaled his car a few years back all because he for one liked to burn out every time he got the chance because he thought it was "cool" and also because he didn't want to spend the money on new tires. So he drove his bald tired car and had to make a sudden swerve, and when he tried to correct it, it wouldn't correct. He kept spinning, and slammed the whole side of his cars against some boulders.

Here he is 2 years later and he still has a bad case of whiplash he's taking meds for every day, and a totaled car which gave him far less money then was owed on the car.

You have to think about your own personal safety before you think about the looks of the car. Chipped paint won't get you killed. Bald tires will.

For those of us who dont read the entire post - I HAVE TIRES!!! You cant just go in and tell a shop you want your tires put on. You have to make an appointment. My appointment was for today - and my tires were installed.

I get aggravated when I see the same **** being said over and over after I already explained the situation.

Justin - I will still be in Rockford. I wasn't going to go since I am headed up to appleton on sunday - but I know you are going and I am looking foward to meeting you so I will definatly be attending.

If you want a good paint job you need to spend the money thats required for it. I wil never put a paint job on my car thats not the best out there. I will never go to MAACO which is the worst I've ever seen a paint job
