it looks as if it is melted, if you can't tell i know it is a bad pic. did the guy that put them in just touch the bulb and not know it? |

That's what it looks like to me. I talked to a mechanic once who said that the oils on your skin will make the bulb turn black and ruin it pretty quick. |

Could skin oils on the bulb cause it to melt the wiring harness or is that a seperate issue?

that's weird... personally, i've never seen anything with that happened. personally, i don't touch the bulb because i don't want to know what happens. but i've watched other people put in their bulbs and had no trouble. so either that bulb was really sensative to oils (which doesn't make much sense to me, because the whole thing is burnt up). so i'm wondering if its because of too much power or just poor quality?

are both of the bulbs burnt out or is just one of them burnt? cuz if it is just one then it may be that he touched that one and not the other...

no skin oils won't affect the harness, that's too much current draw, A 55 watt bulb at roughly 13.8 volts will draw 4 amps, where is a 80 watt is almost 6 and a 100 watt bulb will draw over 7 amps, too much for a lot of stock wiring harnesses on the back of the bulb holder.
