My 1968 Standard Type1... normal Bug for those of you not fluent in acVW speak (air-cooled VW) I picked her up in 2002 at the age of 17, and at the time she was totally black... bumpers, wheels, interior, all accent chrome - everything. The interior was in horrible shape, as were the bumpers, fenders, and the motor (a 1500cc at the time). The first thing to go were the bumpers, wheels, and trim - all of which were replaced with the chrome pieces seen in the pictures. Next up was the engine, swapped out for a 1600ccDP (dual port) with dual 40mm Kad's, degreed pullies, Bosch alternator conversion, Empi header and QuietPack muffler / Empi stinger (ran the stinger more often than the muffler). Quickly following that was the interior, prompted mostly by my plopping into the driver's seat after a day of work - and fell through the cover and onto the springs! So that weekend was spent comparing colors until I finally arrived at the Imola Red that you see now. Took me about a week of living in the garage to get her done, but it was well worth the work IMO - the results are fantastic. Red leather lowback seats with black piping (rear seat done to match), custom panels via me, black leather headliner and red leather on the steering wheel. Lemme know how you like it :)
The front...

The rear... (no, that's not rust on the muffler - red paint that's seen better days)

I love black w/ red interior, so I re-upholstered the car accordingly! The headliner is black leather btw, since you can't see it.

One of my favorite shots...
acVW purists worry not, she was washed immediately afterwards so the salt did no damage!

The beastly 1600 w/ dual 40's and other goodies listed above.

The obligatory donut pic... hehe. Ellington security kicked us out shortly after it was taken... something about excessive noise and the tire marks :)

Second favorite pic... really shows the miniscule exterior proportions of the Type1

As requested, the 12 sec pass slip from when we dropped my friend's sandrail 2017cc in - mad crazy traction issues and a hell of a lotta fun : )

Very Nice.

It is funny the only 3 beetles posted here so far here are all 68's.

Mine needs interior too, it smells like a volkswagon on the inside even.... Once I get rolling, that is my next project.

I have an XB too, an 04, but CInder has taken it over LOL

No way in hell shall I bag my street terror... 1)'bag kit for it won't handle the drag strip 2) I have never seen so much negative camber in my LIFE compared to a Bug on air. However, I am currently saving for 'bags on the xB icon_twisted.gif

Just posted it icon_biggrin.gif Go do some research and you'll see what acVW's are REALLY capable of... 12 seconds is just scratching the surface; the norm for street legal drag Bugs is low 10's
