Can 4×4 trucks be lowered? Sure, in fact there’s a bunch of kits that are readily available to help you get that premium dropped look you’ve been searching for. However, it’s important to remember that in the car-mod community, you might run into some hostility in this area.

4×4 trucks are designed to sit and ride higher on terrains, so that you can travel over rocks or uneven surfaces, without damaging your car. So, before kitting your truck to become the low rider you’ve always wanted, you need to be certain that you won’t be needing the 4×4 features, as there’s a good chance you could damage your truck once it’s lowered.

’88-’98 GM C-1500 5″/7″ Deluxe Drop with Leafs:
If you want the top 5″/7″ drop money can buy, this is your best
bet. Here, instead of the flip kit used on the Economy drop kit,
we use 5″ drop Smooth Rider leafs and 2″ shackles to get the
rear down with an extra level of comfort over the stock leafs.
This kit also includes a pair of HD 1/4″ plate steel c-sections
for proper rear axle clearance and frame reinforcement.
’88-’98 C-1500 5″/7″ Deluxe Drop-A: $659.95Can a 94 Chevy C1500 4×4 be lowered? I found this kit but it doesnt say anything about 2WD or 4WD.
I want to lower it not raise it. So this topic is only about lowering a 4×4.

There’s definately kits out there for lowering 4x4s. Just search around.

Yes, but dont do it.

You will be going through a **** load of broken parts every 3-6 months. My guy Rob lowered his 4X4 blazer 3 inches and he spent more time fixing broken driveline / suspension **** then he got to enjoy the drop. It is now lifted on 33s

I’m sorry but bull ****! I don’t think alot of people consider Bel-Tech an “Economy kit” and they use a flip kit. I’ve had my truck dropped with Bel-Tech stuff for like 8 years and never had problem one. If you’re going to do a drop do it right even if it means spending alittle more money. [/rant]

Yes you can drop a 4×4, but not worth it for all the headacehs.

well the truck was free.
so is it worth dropping it? cuz thats the style i like…or what are the other options i have besides raiseing it.

Dude, several people have already said it’s not worth it… You get enough trouble lifting them past a certain point with changing driveline and suspension geometries… I don’t want to begin imagining what happens when you drop it.

Other options? You’ve got two – 1) as stasis said, trade it in or sell it and get something that’s a lot less hassle to drop it. You said it was free so you won’t be taking a huge hit, unless the truck’s a piece of crap. 2) leave it the way it is. Put some bigger wheels, maybe 20’s with some of the new offroad tires to match, perhaps even make it a sleeper… There’s a dude named Parish with a turbo’d 4×4 Silverado, last I heard it was a 408ci turbo… before that motor he was sitting on a best ET of 10.91. Sleeper… mmmm icon_twisted.gif

Just out of curiousity, why would you want to drop a 4×4? Unless you never plan on using the 4×4 features.. you want the clearance for going offroading..

I think I know the truck you’re talking about, wasn’t it in Hot Rod or Car Craft? I used have a video of it, before my HD crashed.

If you are looking for something cheep to drop get a S-10, or wise it’s about ~$800-1000 if you pay someone to drop a full size.

Insurance is a lot higher on a 4×4 too.. not worth it if you’re not using it.

I already went through 2 s10’s and got bored of them and sold them. Now im moving on to the fullsize. For insurance on a 94 Chevy C/K 4×4 isnt high. Its like pocket change. Its real cheap compared to other vehicles. And its kind the same truck as obsessions but blue.

You can get 2WD full size trucks too.. 4×4 is usually an optional added package…

I’m sure what you want to do can be done, but to do it right will probably be extremely expensive. I don’t know a whole lot about it, but what I can tell you, is don’t cheap out on it. If you want it to just be show, then it doesn’t matter too much, but if you will actually drive it, you don’t want to lose control. Especially if something on the suspensions system breaks and causes the truck to tip/possibly roll, or something breaks in the drive train causing you to get stuck in the middle of the freeway. Could be bad news.
