the same thing they have in benz's now... it's got a lazer sensor that can automatically adjust to the speed of the car in front of you, so you don't have to hit your breaks to disengage CC.

merc uses radar... lex uses lazer... the lex is supposedly much more sophisticated... the mercedes delayed the release of this into the market about 3 times, supposedly due to it's unreliability...

Oh, there is also ultrasonic parking assist that is 4 or 5 sensors on the front and rear bumper to help you park (displays distance to objects on navigation screen). That is probably what your thinking about, but 'laser cruise control' adjusts the speed to keep proper distance to the car in front of you. It will also apply up to 30% brake with warning beeps if the car becomes too close or if you get cut off.

It's a cool idea and I'm sure incredibly helpful for long trips...for people with half a brain. I'm just waiting for another moron like that dude who sued Winnebago cause he thought cruise control would drive the RV for him, so he walked to the back to make some coffee and crashed icon_rolleyes.gif

They better have mad disclaimers and really educate people that this will not prevent an accident and people should be just as careful about drive as without it. I'd say it's much more of a convenience thing than a safety feature and should be thought of that way.

Ok so you are saying you have a smoke screen system and a rocket launcher on your Lexus? Thats awesome. Is the smoke screen on the outside or inside? I think it'd work best inside maybe, just hope it doesnt go off when your driving.

lazer cruise control is strictly a lex item... but merc developed the same technology with radar... the difference is the lex one is better and will even downshift to slow down in addition to the braking.

the merc just does the throttle release and up to 20% breaking.

so in reality, if it was a really really straight road and everything was perfect with the steering/suspention on the lex (which most likely would be for how much they cost) you could pretty much just set it and forget it? if you didnt have to do any steering since the road was straight, and if it sensed the speed of the car in front of you, would it slow down to 0 mph, like if you came to a stoplight or, there was a traffic jam? man that could be pretty useful in a traffic jam, just keepin a steady distance from the person in front of you, and when they moved forward you would move forward the same amount, hmmm.... interesting! i might have to go out and buy a lexus now

Won't slow down to 0 MPH, but will apply up to 30% brake and downshift (although I never really noticed the downshift until you mentioned it, thanks!) It first signals you with constant beeping and applys brakes, then the cruise control disengauges. So it won't do any good at a stop light or in bumper to bumper traffic. Other than that, I love this feature.

Oh, the smoke screen is under the car in sealed PVC pipes. It has a gate valve that opens to let the 'Spectra Smoke' out. The valves along with the rockets are controlled by the 4 digit electronic combination lock in the change drawer, so the car wash guys don't set it off cleaning!
