Took this morning to replace my map lights and dome light with white Superflux LED's.

MAP LIGHTS
First I had use my multimeter to find the positive and negative on the overhead console board. Then I had to decide how to mount the LED's. After seeing how the bulbs were attached to the panel, I thought that coming through the small hole seen in the bottom of the bulb holder would be great.
User posted image

But it turns out the holes were just a little too small. SO I drilled them out just enough for the wires to fit snugly through.
User posted image

So then to get the LED's mounted I had to snip them off before the resistor, slip the wires through and then rewire them.

The next step was to wrap each wire around the corresponding prong.

Then mount the bulb holder back onto the panel!

Here is a shot I took of the LED size compared to the bulb size

And finished! Night shots to come in the future...

Next up, was the Dome Light

For the dome light I took a piece of ABS, drilled holes for six superflux LED's and had to figure out how to attach it to the prongs for the festoon bulb used in the dome light...

I then decided to just pull the filament out of my festoon and attach the non-working bulb to the ABS, so then it was a direct replacement part.

User posted image

Wired up. You can see one lead attached to each end of the festoon. I used these to attach to my LED's.
User posted image

Next step was to snap it back into place and give it juice!

Gotta love Oznium lol...unfortunately I just ordered some 921 LED bulbs from another seller because Oznium doesn't carry them icon_sad.gif

I have to update my cargo/thrid brake lights now, they are still yellow and do not match the cab when everything is lit up.

So I have these on the way, muahahahaha
User posted image

I also have, white/blueish headlight bulbs, white/blueish fog bulbs, silver turns (instead of amber glass), and some white 194 led's on the way. Everything should be updated by the end of the week with no more nasty yellow tinted light.

I have been looking at grills like the ones you have in your signature but it seems like nobody makes them for the 08 bar style grill like I have icon_sad.gif

Plus now I just spent my whole truck fund on nerf bars, a bed mat, and LIGHTS lol

Well I was looking at mostly overlays, I suppose I could just snip my grill out of my frame and mount some bars in there, I'm sure that looks better anyway.

I haven't checked those sites out yet, but I will. Thanks!

I see. It seems like all the cut outs I find are like 04-07 or 08 with the honeycomb grill but not the bar style. I was just on stylinconcepts and they have the friggin overlays I keep finding...

But I don't have the extra money now anyway, I'll just keep an eye out. I'm sure more choices will start popping up soon.
Thanks for the websites.

Auto Anything.com.....they carry just about anything..

and the grills are interchangeable...all 04-08 grills will work the same in the opening....you might have to take out your old grill though....mine is a Carriage Works Billet Grill (about 129 I believe) and just bolts over the existing grill....its the H bar style as well.

Great job on the install, I simply put some LED Dome lights in for each of the lights in my truck and looks just the same as yours does, only difference is you can see all the LED's vs only seeing a few LED lights...I might switch it out now as that looks much cleaner.

Thanks Kyle!

So you think if I bought an 04+ style billet like 04yellowF150's, I can still snip out my bar section (the tabs holding it to the grill frame) and install the billet? Most say "honeycomb style grill only".

I'll have to do some more research on this on the f150 boards. I haven't looked into it very far yet, just read product descriptions.

F150online will have your answer..

All the 04-07 grills are interchangeable....Ford didnt change any dimensions on the 08 so it will work, people just havent updated their sites yet with the information....the 09 has a different grill...

If you have the H style grill like mine is you have a few options from a spiderweb them to the SS billet I have, or you can remove the entire H bar and get a replacement like the Lariats....

Its easy if you want to get rid of the H style, just lift your hood and look under the hood where the front grill piece attaches, you will see several small screws, take those out and the grill surround will pop out. Then just remove the screws/snaps for the H surround and insert your new grill...

there are several youtube vids from companies as well on how to do this....

So yes, all the 04-08 F150s can have ANY grill that is offered by Ford from the H bar style to the Lariat to the FX2 to Harley grill....I like the Roush and Harley grills the best and might do a switch on mine icon_wink.gif icon_cool.gif

Got some of my lights in today, still waiting on fogs, turn signals, and license plate lights.

All pictures were with normal shutter speed (1/4 sec) unless otherwise noted

Looks good Tony...time for some window tint my friend icon_cool.gif

redoing mine this Monday with 15% all around...so it will be 15 up front and ~5% for the rear window and rear side windows (18% from factory with 15 over it icon_cool.gif )

And I agree, check out MossMotors, autoanything, modbargains.com....stylinconcepts is a little expensive....Ive also used Partstrain.com because they have online coupons for money off etc.

I want to tint my windows, I think that will be the next thing I do. This is the longest I have ever gone without tinted windows, with the BMW I had an appointment set up for the day after I brought the car home from the dealer lol

if you want to tint them yourself people have had a lot of luck with the kits....Solarguard film which is pretty popular (not the greatest quality) and since our windows are fairly flat, exception would be the driver and passenger windows which need a little heat shrinking, its a straight forward DIY project...kits are around 79 bucks.....You are going to want to go dark since our front windows are so freaking big too...Im contemplating just doing 5% on my front windows as well or tinting my entire front windshield with 50% to cut down on the light coming in from the front.

Nice to see f-150s used to be on here. I found Oznium through fordtruckworld.com. I have an '07 and want to do some subtle customizing. I don't want too flashy or too over the top. I'm thinking all blue interior, dash, climate, dome lights with maybe red cup holders, and red exterior under mirror illumination.

would look great....our trucks are easy to wire and the dash comes apart VERY easy....let us know if you need any help...I used 4 9.5" blue flex strips under my footwells and under the rear of the front seats to light up the back seat.....easy to wire straight to the battery as well, there is a rubber gromet right behind the steering wheel that is not used for anything and comes out really easy.
