Lots of new people on board, in addition to older regulars picking up sportbikes.

I'm curious who owns a sportbike currently? Share what you've got, experience, etc...

I've got a 2003 Yamaha R6. Been riding on and off for about six years. Spanking twisties is my real passion, though I enjoy the occasional "stunting" as well.

Haha... I've never seen a 2-stroke supermoto bike. That would probably not work out so well.

I've got my CRF450R Motocrosser, and I was invited to one of KTM's test days for supermoto bikes. That was an awesome experience. We've been talking about getting an 09 Honda 450 and supermotoing it... that would be sweet. I'll just have to see what happens. My passion is in Motocross though.

Not all of them, I helped a buddy install a HONG KONG plastic kit and it was fantastic for the 600 bucks he paid. Matching the tank to the plastics was a bit tricky though.

'05 R6 Raven, riding for about 4 years now. Enjoying the 6 over my old ZX10R (2004) mainly due to finding it easier to throw through the corners and whatnot that are at my disposal now (compared to houston straight-ness).

Nope, hitting the pavement @ 60-80mph is the same on a 600 and a 1000 unless somehow the laws of physics are somehow different for a larger bike. I always wear my full finger riding gloves (did not own them at time pic was taken) and I try to wear my Joe Rocket jacket (owned before I even bought the bike) but sometimes I dont wear it. On the plus side I never forget my Helmet! lol

Yeah, I always wondered why people on Harley's are like "I don't need a helmet, because I ride a harley... not one of them crotchrocket things"

Your head will hit the pavement, when cruising at 60mph and suddenly BAM, grandma pullsout infront of you and your head SLAMS into the pavement, cracking your skull open sending your brains all over the windshield of oncoming traffic... regardless of WHAT bike you're on icon_smile.gif

But yeah. Wear gear. Just my opinion.

I try to wear it all the time but when its 100+ outside and the humidity is high I dont. I know I should wear it all the time because you never know whats going to happen. I think that being comfortable is the biggest part of being safe. If im hot as hell and uncomfortable then im more likely to make a mistake and possibly go down and hurt myself or others.

I can never control the 'grandma' factor and I never will try to. But I can control how safe I ride, and I dont ride if im not comfortable.

I wear my gear, 100% of the time. In Minnesota, land of 10,000 lakes, it gets humid as hell here. On a 98* and humid day, I still wear it.

Overtime, I've learned to control my breathing and keep my body cool. Of course, it took practice icon_smile.gif

How are these people with such nice bikes just NOW mentioning that they own them?

For me, my sport bike is way more fun than just about anything else I do in my life. I'm surprised someone who has an Aprilia or Ducati is just now mentioning them.

Oh, and I also wear my gear 100% of the time. Helmet, leather jacket, gloves, and racing boots. Next season I'll also have a pair of textile pants, since I want more protection than jeans. Doesn't matter how hot it is. If it's too hot to ride comfortably, I take my car.

I wish I could stunt, Its a mixture of wrecking my bike and the possibility of breaking a leg then not being able to work/pay my bills that scares me. I garbage wheelie sometimes and rarely get the front tire higher then 2ft up. I am capable of doing wheelies but just choose not to very often.. Ive endo twice, neither time on purpose.. scared the **** outta myself.

I do more endos than wheelies, cause I'm retarded.

Considering going partial-stunt setup this summer so I will be less afraid of dropping my bike, which is the reason I haven't done much on it yet. That or just practice on the stunt bikes all my friends ride when they go to the lot.

no way that thing goes past 175 unless it has some SERIOUS performance upgrades

actually the 2008 R6 is the first 600cc bike to break 170 mph. ever!

so more realistically around 140ish, when you **** your pants doing that on a 300 something pound bike trying to control it. ha

why in hell would you be riding that fast anyway? haha

Yeah, 210 on a 600cc isn't happening.

My 03 R6 hit 174 indicated, and that's with a fair amount of performance upgrades. GPS was actually around 159.

My 06 600rr has indicated 171, Roomate claims his 03 hit 172. We hit the speeds at the same time while racing down the highway. True speed? who knows... Im Stock, hes got a Micron exhaust. But 210 on a 600?.... If it stock I call BS. If not he better of had some serious mods.

But whats the point in 100+ mph? Thats one reason so many people get injured and get the sportbike scene a bad name. Not ripping on anyone here, but it's what I have noticed.

Theres a safety and price that is hard to repay. Injuring yourself an insane amount or trying to pay off that fine you got for going 35 over.

Once again, not ripping on anyone here. I would love to get a bike someday.

Chris, most sport bike accidents occur at far less then 100 mph.

There is no way your friends R6 hit 210.

The point in 100+ mph?

What's the point of sky diving?

Bungee jumping?

Drag racing?

Cliff Diving?

Parasailing?

Rock climbing?

All these questions are answered with one word:

Adrenaline. Excitement. Extacy.

Pick one, they all work icon_smile.gif

*for the record, I think drag racing is day. Straight lines are boring. Twisties FTMFW.

There's not a single stock sport bike that'll go 210 without modification, including the fastest production bike ZX-14. And before anyone decides to play smart ass, I'm talking about normal bikes you'd find in the US that don't cost $30k+.
