I started this project as a christmas present for my father....and it would have beeen on time but sold his 2000 and bought a 2007 AFTER i bought all the parts...lol

The objective is to build a low-cost HID projector setup to help his vision (which isn't what it used to be). I managed to grab a set of DEPO projector housings from a guy on ebay who sold at half the normal cost becausee one of the halos didn't work. (not a problem for me)

The lights themselves aree in excellent shape and have some cool looking LEDs as marker/effects lights. They use an H3 bulb in the projector and an H1 in the high beam. What really sucks is that they were 25w halogen bulbs!!!

I got an H3 HID bulb kit in 5000K for the projector and regular 55w H1 halogen bulbs for the high beams. Initial testing of the HID in the projector showed a horribly blurry pattern with the hot spot low and to the left. Some dremeel work later and with the use of a spacer i got the hot spot top-center where it belongs:

The cutoff was still blurry as hell so using a hook-probe I gently pulled back on the cutoff shield causing it both to refocus and curve resulting in a very nice cutoff for a cheap ebay projector:

Update: Got the lights installed today. GM (in their infinate wisdom) decided to drop they're perfectly decent 03-06 silverado headlights design that allowe the entire housing to be removed in mere seconds. Thee new design requires removing the grille (blah!!!)

that being said, installation wasn't that horrible and no snafus were encountered....onto the pics:

I did a "glare-test" to be sure driving in front and to the right of him on the way home. Even in my lowered corvette, there was hardly any glare until he got about 20' away, But that's bound to happen eveen with OEM HID cars....especially since his headlights are mounted 42" from the ground. biglaugh.gif

Update: Part II

Seeing thing in front of you is important, but when you drive a monster like this you need to see behind you just as much. Aux backup lights were in order so i bought some cheap projector fogs with a horribly blurry cutoff but a nice spread. I swapped the blue-tinted 55w bulb for a 100w KC halogen bulb and installed a high-wattage relay harness to power them.

The result:

The transformers were busted on one side, and my dad and i opted not to hook them up for the moment. If his were a show truck, i would have, but it's a work truck so it's not that important.

Well Mastor if it's the Monster Truck you pretty much don't have to worry about backing up blind. If there was anything behind you you'd notice it in front of you eventually, just a little flatter. biglaugh.gif

Sounds like you need to get yourself a back up camera with infrared l.e.d.s Mr. icon_smile.gif I have one and in total darkness without my reverse lights on,I can see about twenty feet behind my ride. icon_cool.gif
