It's a damn neon with a turbo. Don't care what anyone says, who's seen what done to them, how fast they can be, it's a blood turbo'd neon. Quick car with a **** interior and general associative thoughts and comments. Plus I hate how nearly every owner says "It's an SRT-4! Not a neon!". It's a godamn neon, just like the "SRT10" is a freakin' Viper.

Personally, I see them all over the place. Spring for something else, such as the aforementioned R32 (Mark IV is the best looking IMHO), or an 04-05 STi, possibly a Bug-eye WRX Wagon.

Dude, I wasn't even comparing them to a stock GT. Don't get your panties all in a bunch. I still stand by my statement b/c it's correct, it's still a Neon. Slap a turbo and body kit on a Neon and you have an SRT4.

Here's a car under 10k (with a turbo) that would make a neon look like a pony.

Don't get an srt4 aka Neon, anyways I know like 5-6 people who own em and they swear by them, but they are cheaply made with plastics and out of those people I know, 4 of them have blown their engines already. Quality made cars will also blow their engines but not as likely and you can't go wrong with a veedub!!!! You can do a grip of mods to these gti's and they are light and fast as hell but I'll smoke an srt4 (neon) with my suv. In the end go with what you want we can only give you OUR opinion, Good luck with all that.

I love my super stripped neon. No power anything, but it does have AC.

36 mpg, virtually no rust, and super cheap to fix!

Go for it if you want. I have no idea why people hate neons on here.

****, look at the new camaro. There is almost more plastic in the interior than in a neon.

I don't hate on Neon's, I just find it really funny that people who have a SRT4 refuse to call them a Neon. Like I said earlier, a SRT4 is a Neon w/ a turbo and body kit slapped on it.

The cars themselves I don't hate all that much... I've seen first-hand what they can do. It's mostly the owners and their SRT-4/not a neon obsession that drives me nuts.

Perhaps it's due to my base and all the young kids with 'tons' of money coming in all of a sudden as compared to before, but there has got to be at LEAST 40 of the damn things running around town and base, and damn near the same amount of STi's and Evo's - the latter being more predominant. Just getting tired of seeing them is all. Ready for someone to build something unique. Such as the only LS2 FD around town, or perhaps the Rabbit that some dude brought over from Japan when he transferred with a Skyline motor in it. No emissions or safety inspection on the island, so he gets away with it icon_smile.gif

SRT-4's a capable car, don't get me wrong. But damn near every block has one on it around here. Boring. Irritating listening to blow-off's and PSI cranked all the way up, tired of crackling OEM muffler-less exhaust, blah blah. Guess I do dislike the car after all, heh.

And what people are saying when they compare an SRT4 to a neon is they're the same platform, one's just been modified. Just like a V6 'stand compared to a Saleen model - same platform with modifications... Not saying it's in the same ballpark, the SRT obviously has a performance-oriented mission compared to the gas-saver, putt-around-town that a normal neon has.

Don't get your panties in a bunch when people disagree with you on a subject, don't like your car choice, or recommend something else. Especially when you start a thread ASKING for advicec, opinions, etc icon_smile.gif

I still say look for an R32 Mark IV, or perhaps go old-school with a Type1 and build the motor. Best money I've spent in a car to date, and all said and done it was freaking quick and cheap to build. OG's on here should remember the little black terror I once had icon_smile.gif

The whole SRT-4/Neon thing is like the s-10/Xtreme.
Just a bodykit and wheels pretty much.

Dunno about that one.. Xtreme was/is purely an appearance package on an existing platform, whereas the SRT is a performance re-vamp of the original vehicle.

Like I said before, SRT to neon is like Saleen or Shelby to Mustang.

From what I understand, the Dodge Neon SRT-4 versus Dodge SRT-4 argument is based on this...

The manufacture didn't label it a Neon. So while it is a Neon with a lot of performance/visual modifications, the official name is Dodge SRT-4. It's the only SRT that doesn't include the name of the car it's a modification from.

Really though, it's a waste of time to get upset over it. The car kicks ass regardless what you call it.

The Dealer or the Manufacturer? Dealer people are idiots more often than not. I don't have my car with me right now, nor the sticker, so I'm going off what I'm seeing on-line.

For instance, 2003 Dodge SRT-4 sticker:

It is a Neon. Go look up VIN plate information (I'm looking at 2003 from AllData). Notice that position 5 is the code for "vehicle line" and it will either be a S or a V. S = NEON (LHD) and V = NEON (RHD). If the Vehicle Identification Number says it's a Neon, I would call it a Neon.

Blame DaimlerChrysler if you don't like it.

You can build anything to beat anything else. This is a very obvious statement.

But I've seen bondo bucket 80's Malibus that will suck the fenders off a stock Corvette.

No matter how fast you are there is always someone who is faster.

If you like the Srt-4 which you seem to go with it.

not my point. neon srt is ALOT more than a neon basic?

u compaired the stats of the neon and the neon srt. there is nothing different when compairing the colbalt ls to the ss. or like a normal golf to a golf gti. they are all "upgraded" faster versions of their counter parts. yes they are all alot more than eachoter, but then so is the neon vs the neon srt.

Is this a for real thread? The members of the forum are arguing over what to call a certain vehicle? I shouldn't be surprised, but who really gives a ****? OP you asked for our opinions, if you don't like OUR opinions, then tough ****. Get over it. Here's MY opinion.

I'd never own one unless I drove one and it somehow made me fall in car-love with it. Which will never happen because I don't plan on ever driving one. Ever. Here's why
1.) It too much resembles a Neon
2.) It's FWD
3.) It looks just like a Neon
4.) It's got 4 doors
5.) It's got a backseat
6.) Did I mention its FWD?
7.) I'm a GM guy (when it comes to American cars)

lol i could show you alot of cars that could hang with or stomp that thing for 10 grand or less biglaugh.gif just saying. but they are ok cars yeah they are fast in a str8 line if thats all you car about. and good luck finding a good used one i can tell you most of them i have seen for under 10,000 have been beat to hell and back by some high school age kids lol but if that what you want than i say go for it

EDIT: also just got to add as a GM guy i have looked at cobalt SS alot and you can still find the supercharged ones for well under 10 grand, hell the dealership i work for has a brand new 2010 turbo fully loaded ss on there lot for right about 20,000 brand new and from personal experience too i can say that the cobalt ss will wipe the floor with a SRT-4 neon.
