I have two Kicker CVR 12"s in a sealed box being powerd by two Kicker ZR360 brighed 4ohm mono on each in a 93 plymouth Acclaim..i i want to know if i move up to 15s will the expense be worth the added boom?

The rest of my system is a pair K6.2 componets in the front doors and 5 1/2s in the rear powerd by a JL 300/4.

And Pioneer Premier DEH-P360 Head.

Thanks

if you want to replace the 12's with 15's you might as well just get another 12" to add to the 2 you already have, you'll get more boom and don't have to sell/throw away anything

and ported boxes are always better with DVC subs, the sound is a lot less muffled and in my opinion sounds 100 times better...but like the rest of your system, its all your personal opinion, whatever you think looks/sounds best is what is best for you...i know people with systems worth well over 4 Gs and they sound like crap, while other people have 2 10's and sounds fantastic...all opinion man...all opinion icon_twisted.gif

How would you run 2 amps on 3 subs? and is there enough room in my trunk for them remember this is a Plymonth Acclaim and would they over ride my compoinets(my installer wanted to put 2 6.5 in each door as he said the base was over riding the mids and tweets) ..i hav"t talked to my stereo guy yet i have my stuff put in professonaly..just trying to get a idea.

Thanks

Adding the 12's instead of replacing yours with the 15's is a good idea if you have the room . I don't know how a sub being DVC means it sounds better in a ported box though . That all has to do with the specs of the driver, not the number of voice coils . You're really the most qualified to figure out whether it would fit or not, I mean.. you have the car icon_smile.gif Alot of stereo shops will let you carry a box out to your car to put it in and check out the fit; might be worth a shot in your case to give you some idea of size . The only way to determine if your proposed new bass setup would over-ride your mains is to actually install it and then listen to it . If your bass is drowning out a good set of amplified components you may be listening at a level that will damage your hearing . That risk will only be increased by adding another pair of components up front . What do you mean by three subs with two amps ? Which amps/subs ? Your current setup plus 1 15" ? Which 15" ?

do you plan on keeping the same amp setup?
if so, why go with 15's because your going to be relying on your box to pull your db's?
and you dont have trunk displacement. so im going to agree with dan on this one.
dont add another 12, dont switch to 15's, just build a decent ported enclosure.
if you dont feel like buying one or paying for someone to design one. do it yourself, theres quite a few box builder guides online.

Yeah i"m going to keep the Kicker ZR amps regardless of what i do there in my opinion underrated by allot of people.

I"ll go talk to my installer about a ported box though when i first got my system he recomanded a sealed box for the type of music i listion to..hard rock(AC-DC,Quiet Riot)and country(George Jones,Hank Williams jr)i don"t listion to rap at all.

They recommend sealed enclosures for rock because its mostly drums (& bass guitar..) Bass that hits fast and then gets out fast . With rap and r&b you have looong lower basslines . Generally they say a ported enclosure sacrifices accuracy or "speed" but you get a bit louder . In the ported enclosure the speaker is pushing air forward and back as it moves forward and back . In the sealed enclosure the speaker can push air out the front, but when it moves back it compresses the air on the inside of the box instead of pushing it out of a port, and that compression is supposed to help "tighten" the response of the speaker.. but it also keeps its volume in check a little bit .
With the size of the speaker too, a smaller cone is going to give you a more accurate response with rock-ish bass and a larger cone is going to give you a more accurate response with rap-ish bass . (There are all kinds of exceptions to this I'm sure, but ..) With 15's you might find that the drums don't sound quite as tight . They "booooom" more than they punch .
What about just replacing your 12's with a sub that hits harder ? And what model number is the amp ?
When you get in and drive somewhere what is it that disappoints you that you're trying to fix ? What are you just not getting out of it ?

Cooper said it very well.
sealed looses some dB for accuracy, but ported enclosures give some more power. however i do listen to mostly techno and rock, but i chose the ported setup in my car because i know that if i dont over do the bass boost you wont loose the accuracy so much, then you just crank the boost when you want to hit the dB's its capable, so in the end; a ported box will do you wonders but get a remote bass boost so you dont kill your sound quality.
and ampin the components does indeed make a world of difference

I have a JL audio300/4 on my componets..i have had a talk with my installer(he was the authorized kicker dealer before the circuit city deal)and he recommands another set of 6 1/2 in the front doors and keeping the sealed box..becuse he says i want it louder allso though it pretty loud..but i get a pleasure of pulling up to someone playing rap and drowning them out with George Jones.

there was a guy that just pulled besides me with a nice kited car and he was playing some rock music, and it was ok but his sub was distorting, biglaugh.gif so i turn on a bass test, and i turn it up and he gives me a look of emberasement, so then i did the only logical thing, i started switching colors icon_cool.gif
