Buying some new rotors soon and the company I'm purchasing them from offers zince plating (in gold, silver, and black). They claim that the plating not only changes the color of the rotor but also helps protect against rusting (the reason I want the coating). I'm just wondering is the zinc coating worth the extra money? Cost ranges from $10-$15 per rotor depending the color.

it will quickly wear off where the pads rub but is good otherwise. at my old job we zinc plated all steel parts on the propeller assemblies and it was a great rust preventer.

I don't think so because it will only help the rotor not rust to the hub.

technically zinc is a very good rust preventor. Which is why it is used on a LOT of ships and such. They normally just bolt large blocks of zinc to the ship's inside and it does something to prevent rust.

SOO technically if the WHOLE rotor is coated in zinc, since the part that touches the hub would also be zinc covered it would prevent rust there and also, if you notice how some rotors rust on the inside, it should prevent that also.

it would be great at preventing rust from forming down inside the hollow vents and such.

don't you only have 85K miles on it... do you need to change your rotors already?

I have sold rotors to people with less than 30K miles on the vehicle. One of my rotors is warped (O'Reilly junk) and some of the others are glazed so I'm replacing all four.
