Yeah - I've used those for DVD players and laptops for years, and they work great. Just be sure to get one of the better ones with a cooling fan - the tony ones are more convenient, but I've heard some horror stories about them overheating. Mine is a big unit (about 5" long with a powerful fan) and it's run for months and months in my Suburban. If anything, that Whistler one looks better than the one *I* have. icon_razz.gif

same question in regards to one of the older PS2s. is it possible to hardwire it? i'd rather not have the converter laying around.

Just cut off the cigarette lighter adapter and wire it to your car like any positive/negative accessory. For more information on how to wire things directly to your car, search around!

You can't hot wire a xbox to the car even though they run on 12 volts. Since cars voltage go up and down running its at like 13 or 14 if i remember correctly. Therefore it will fry your mobo. You might want to check into just building a carputer. I have read and debated about putting a xbox in my car but they get so damn hot so quick. So I still haven't decided

You can use a voltage regulator to stabilize voltage to one constant output. Beyond my knowledge exactly what to use or how it works, but I know they do the job. Same for LEDs!

If you splice something, I'd splice in the DC/AC converter to the 12V, not the game unit itself (maybe that's what you meant). It's already built to handle the fluctuating voltage, and that way, you can easily dismount the game console if you want to bring it inside. Just attach the converter unit to the underside of the seat or something... Or stash it in the trunk then use a black extension cord to run the plug to where you plan to put the PS2 or Xbox... You should be able to tuck the cord into the trim peices or something.

I was going to do something like this, though i could not find a good spot to put the actual guts of the xbox, i had the controller ports and power/reset buttons and disc tray all coming out of the center "storage" between the front seats so the back would have the xbox, while the front would have the ps2 i already have in there. So from the pictures i got the impression that you had the actual guts of the xbox in the door... is that true or did i get something mixed up?

Its in the side panel next to the back seat. Its like a door, but not. tC is a two-door car.

yeah, the mobo is by the quarterpanel. slightly forward of the rear wheel well. the depth of the unit makes it a tough fit...that and all the other stuff in there.
i couldn't figure a way to get the tray in the center under the armrest. doesn't quite seem wide enough.
another way is if you completely section the unit (once you remove the drives of course) getting the overall height down. it would then be possible to fit under the passenger seat. but i didn't want to go that route.

Thats a good idea about taking it apart like that. How hard was it?

real effin hard!
well, let me correct that...taking it apart was the easiest step. 100+ solder points on 20awg, custom power regulator, fiberglass/sanding/paint/upholstery/rejiggering all of my other electronics mounting for the first time...that was the hard part. first time for me for all work involved, so all in took me about 4 months on/off weekends in research and rolling up my sleeves.

the sad part is that it would probably only take me a day or two now.

That is the first place i thought of, but since all of my seats are power and what not, there is extra crap under the seats, and in my jimmy theres a hump under there too for who knows what reason, same with the driver's side. Im still searching for a place to put the guts, in the meantime i need to save up and get a big flip down tv for the back.

And now i get where you put the guts, i thought this was an xb not a tc so thats where i got mixed up.
