Color temperature has nothing to do with temp of the bulb. They're all the same.
Get whatever temp you want. 4K - White, slightly yellow. 6K - White, slightly blue/purple. 8K - Blue/Purple 10K - Blue 12K - Purple 14K - UberPurple |

I hate 3000K headlights. But that's me. I say get 6000K personally.

Are the 14K's still driveable with? Or do they end up worse than stocks? (I've only seen pics up to 8K)

I agree with Aken, I hate the 3000K, but since you have a yellow truck, I think it would look sick IMO.
Dave I have 10s or 12s and they are drivable. |

14Ks are not recommended for daily driving. They are bright, but because they output so much color, very little light reflects off surfaces. And you can't see for crap in the rain.
10Ks are nice, 12Ks are pushing it. 14Ks are recommended for show cars only. |

Think getting the 10K's with red LED's (red blue = purple?) pointed at them will give the same desired deep purple look in the 14K's, but still have the driveability of the 14s?

You'd have to use a lot of LEDs to produce enough lights to mix with the brightness of the HID. And even then it still wouldn't be the same color.

I think I read that most all Phillips and Slyvania HID setups that are used in most vehicles today use a 5400k color temperature. The blue and purple effect is caused by the HID optics themselves, including the lens, project, etc. The ECE spec optics create the nice deep blue or violet color that you find on some Euro cars, BMWs especially. This is simply a prism effect, which is why the color will suddenly change as the road surface changes, but to the driver, the bulbs appear as a nice bright white with a slight blue tint. If you stand directly in front of the car, the light will also appear different as opposed to if you look from a diagonal.
The website that I learned this off of ranks on all of the aftermarket companies that sell ghetto equipment advertised at extremely high temperatures. The higher color temperature bulbs (12000k) are not going to be as bright. I think you might actually be able to get a true HID kit for your Ford, I've seen whole headlight sets sold, that include the correct optics. |

I love yellow foglights. If I had the money I would be HID'd out.
