This is for my lx, not the wagon...
So I went to start my car this morning. And it didn't happen. However I noticed that all my indicator lights came on right before start like normal. As I turned the key all the way over everything went out. I took the negative cable off the battery, put it back on and tried again. Same thing happened. These are the only things i can think of that might be causing a problem: 1. It's raining (really hope that has nothing to do with it) 2. I can pull off the negative side without tools, even though its screwed as tight as possible. 3. Clutch wiring isn't see that it's pushed in all the way? I'm asking on my Escort forum as well. Just my luck to get a new car then have everything go wrong with it. |

sounds like the battery terminal is loose/cooroded or the battery does not have enough of a charge to crank the engine over. clean and replace the battery terminals or try jumpstarting it. if neither work then its not the battery and could be a bad starter.

a problem I had was similar...
I opened the door, no power what so ever, no lights, switches didnt work, nothing. Put the key in, turned it, got some lights. Not enough power to start it. Looked in the fuse block in the engine bay, to realize a fuse was blown. check it out, might be something similar. |

I fixed it! Or at least figured out the problem so i can fix it. The negative battery cable isn't held tight enough to the post to get a good current. Not I need a new end to my battery cable. How can I fix this?

Cut the end off, and buy a new one at a parts store. This would be a good time to remove and service the battery. You might want to replace both ends if they are really bad.
