I'm considering getting the ICELED UFO underbody kit, however I'm worried about lighting efficiency. While these kits seem to look great underneath trucks and other vehicles that are lifted, I have a 2003 Eclipse that's lowered. With only about 2 inches to the ground, after mounting the LED's, I'm affraid that the colors won't mesh as well because they are so close to the ground, and you will be able to somewhat make out the individual LED's on the ground. If I rotate them enough however to direct them towards the opposite end of the vehicle, the angle required at the level they would be mounted at would probably project the light a few lanes out from the edge of my car (at least I'd imagine it would if you focused the center of the right side lights on the left side of the vehicle).
Does anyone here have this kit with a vehicle that's already lowered? How do those of you with this kit deal with the dark space between the front and side lights (wheel well area) since the kit doesn't include wheel well lighting. It looks kind of strange when the entire underside of the vehicle doesn't appear to be covered. Also, is it just me, or does it seem a bit expensive to have a kit like this for $800 and not include wheel well lighting? I don't even see it available. You'd think with a kit like this for 3-4 times as much as the lower model of this, they would at least include wheel well lights =/ |

Hey,
Best mounting position would probably be about 4 or 5 inches from the edge of the car shining out towards the side. You can easily rotate the tubes so just play with it until you get the best fit. $800 for the kit is justified by the high quality components (uses super wide angle architectural quality LEDs). The kit was not designed with the help of accountants, so no corners were cut. It is hand made by people in the UK. If you want a cheaper kit, go with a mass produced one in China that uses the cheapest LEDs possible. I think the colors will mesh pretty well The kit doesn't come with wheel well stuff but you can add a few sealed Gem's to the wheel well's. Get the UFO kit and if you are happy with it, consider getting 4 sealed Gem's to light up the wheel wells. |

just my affirmation of Phil's comments. I wrote the review on the web page about cheap wire/etc. The shielded wire that comes with the UFO is the same stuff that we use for powering lights in night clubs. same shielding, same guage, the only difference is there's a plastic inner shield, and ours has a wax paper material. this is just one example of the high quality. all circuts, no resistors make it prone to "burning out" protection circuts, so you can't mess it up by power spikes or hooking it up wrong. ir remote included, and expandalility is endless, due to the serial port input, and output capability. that and it's the absolute best that no other can touch, you'll never have to worry about upgrading, and the staff who actually will help you with your individual car, i'd pay $1,000 after i recieved it and got to learn about all the features (no bright ideals Phil!!!)

I have my ICELEDs cross aimed. My car isn't lowered, but it does fill in the underbody area very nicely. Even though the LEDs are very bright, I don't think you'll get 15-20 foot of bright light (width of your car, plus width of several lanes...) if you point them almost horizontal.
As A2I mentioned (and I believe he is doing...), you can add other modules (extra tubes, spot light modules, etc) to fill in any gaps in the light, and still maintain the light pattern around the car. After seeing the functionality of the ICELEDs, I didn't want any other kit, and after buying and installing it, I wouldn't buy anything less. These things are built to last! |
