I think you're referring to electroluminescent wire, or EL wire. Google EL wire and you'll get a bunch of sites you can order it from. I've also seen it stocked at Wal-Mart.

I'm not fully understanding what he's asking about though.

If you want glowing wire that you can wrap around whatever you want to and make it "glow", then yes, EL Wire is your best bet.

But if you're actually asking for speaker cabling to go from your amp/HU to your speakers, and to have them glow, then no, I don't think there's anything like that out there. Speaker wire uses AC current, while most of the glowing stuff that you'll find in your car runs off of DC current.

You could coat your speaker wire with a UV coating then hit it with some UV lights to make it glow.

actually that could be a cool and rather easy thing to do/make. Only issue I see is that most people hide all the wires in their car.

well....it is for a box that has a plexi top so i was trying to find something to make the wires glow so it wouldn't really be just random wires in my car

He might want it for a backwards sub install like some people do with the subs that have nice magnets and baskets or something.

^^ is standard Monster Cable wire...you get it next to the chinaman @ Wal-Mart (just kiddin, but you can get that pictured wire @ walmart). The idea with the fiberoptic wire has yet to be done, and for most companies, would not be worth it because 95% of the time wire is hidden, so its visible properties are not worth their cost.

How not?? You tuck LED's in the tips and run 12V through the RCA line (on separate conductors). Easy.

These aren't what i saw in person, but same idea.

Actually most neon and EL products do use AC. If you look at the transformer for string of EL wire for your car it'll go from 12 volts DC to around 100 volts AC depending on the length. Same goes for Neons but the jump is much higher. A 9" neon is usually around 1500 volts AC.

They use AC to decrease the amperage. at 12 volts a 9" neon draws about 210 ma but by jumping it up to 1500 volts AC the it drops to about 15 ma.

However you may be correct in the sense that there isn't any actual glowing speaker wire. Just ends. At least nothing that I've seen.

Heres how to make "REAL" glowing wire.... take 24 gauge wire.....run about 1000 cathode sets off of it without a fuse...sit back and enjoy your short lived glowing power wire. icon_smile.gif icon_smile.gif

you dont even need the cathodes just attach one end of the wire to the pos terminal of the battery and the other end to the neg. oh and dont use a fuse. if you use a fuse it wont work. icon_cool.gif

Hmm, for some reason I was thinking that neons ran off of DC. Maybe not. I'll have to check that out and figure it out for sure.
