Wow. Just... wow. Favorite quotes: "This car had had 10 coats of hand spraying and you could tell..... " "The veyron is electronically limited to 253 mph..... It will only take the engine 12 minutes to drink all the fuel when the car is running flat out... It takes 3 seconds to get to 60 from a standstill and only 7 to get to 125 mph....... INFACT this is such an awesome engine that if a Maclaren F1 raced past at 100 mph and the bugatti was standing still the bugatti from a standing start at full acceleration would beat the Maclaren F1 to 200 mph....UNBELIEVEABLE!!!! The seven speed DSG transmission can handle 1106 lb ft more than the Veyron developes..... Oh and if you can afford one the fuel bill at full pelt is astronomical as it gets 2.3 mpg........Fantastic!!!! " ANd the best one... "This W16 alloy engine developed by Bugatti for the Veyron 16.4 has a special place in history as its design employs a space saving VR principle with 2 slender eight cylinder blocks arranged at a 90 degrees angle to each other....... I saw that guy on TV once. It's like $5000 for his carwash.
And if I had that car, I'd probably pay for that wash. |

removes all surface contaiminents (sp). After claying your car the paint should feel like clean glass. IMO, it the one of the best yet most often skipped steps in most people's detailing routine. |

If you want to learn more about clay bar, here's my favorite article on the subject - talks about what clay is and exactly what it does. A bar costs about $12-$15 for the good stuff and can be reused several times.
http://autopia.org/forum/guide-detailing/80231-...iling-clay-pre-wax-cleaning.html NOTE: Old, used-up clay or clay you accidentally drop on the ground (NEVER reuse dropped clay on paint!!!) can be used on powder-coated wheels or windows - gets off tough tar and grime. Powder-coat paint is tougher than clear-coat paint and can be used with "dirty" clay as can glass. Here's Autopia's "newb" guide section as well - great general articles in there about basic car care, well written and to the point: http://autopia.org/forum/guide-detailing/ As for product, I know that Phil carries quite a few different products (including clay) but I've never tried them. I can speak VERY highly of Detailers Paradise however( http://www.detailersparadise.com ). This Colorado-based web business is very helpful and resopnsove to all customer queries, and their wax system (Prima Epic, Amigo, Hydro and Slick) have kept my MINI as shiny as a mirror even after an entire winter of grime and road salt. |

Yeah, several of my friends speak highly of the Mother's bar, and I've seen it for sale locally at AutoZone and Target.
Note that you can use detailing spray as a lubricant - the bar MUST glide across the paint surface, and ideally it feels like it's barely doing anything at all but trust me it IS (just look at the dirt stuck to the bar to reassure yourself). NEVER keep claying if you feel it "sticking" to the surface - it should glide, effortlessly. However, if you're not thrilled about the idea of using a quarter of a bottle of detail spray as a lube, just get some Dawn dish soap (the old blue stuff has no hand softeners) or a big ol' bottle of car wash shampoo (I like the Armor All brand that costs $8 and lasts like 2 years) and mix a solution with water in a spray bottle - it will work perfectly wall as clay lube. I usually put in about 20 drops of soap into a spray bottle and add water (so a fairly strong solution). I use more than half the bottle when claying to keep it VERY wet and it works great - only costs a few pennies per use as well. Just toss any left-overs with no guilt. :) Last, clay can be sticky and messy and will usually get into your fingernails... I usually just wear a latex glove while claying - it makes life MUCH easier, and any clay residue that accidentally gets on your microfiber or terry towels will NOT come out even after repeated washings. A big box of gloves runs like $3 at Sam's Club or other places... Last edited by ImagoX on Wed Apr 18, 2007 7:43 am, edited 1 time in total |
