Could anyone tell me what parts I would need so I can get my factory stereo from my 99 grand am and the factor speakers to work outside of the car. I either want this in my garage or in my room to have a custom set up of some sort. I am also planning on hooking my subs up to it also for some partys or something.

Well, I'd start with an AC -> 12v DC converter... Maybe a box if you don't want the fugly back of the head unit to show, and boxes for the speakers.

It'll sound like crap, don't do it. Invest in a cheap home audio setup and you'll be much happier with the finished product.

If you just want to play the speakers and the deck you can power them off a computer's power supply which are fairly inexpensive, but still almost the same price of a cheap CD clock radio that will sound just as good . You'll have to mount the speakers somehow or they'll sound like butt .
If you want to power amps & subs also you will need a high-current 12v DC power supply and they can be pretty expensive . Probably to the point where it won't be worth it and you'll get more for your money if you just buy a small home stereo . Sorry, probably not the answer you wanted to hear . But why spend more for less ? |

Thanks for the help guys. My uncle has an old car radio and some 6x9's hooked up in his garage. I always wanted to do something like that but I'll just figure something out.

I know you said it would be fairly expensive to power an amp and 2 10" subs but would it still sound the same if I just hooked those up to a stereo?

You can't hook a 12V amp into a AC system (your house) without an inverter (high powered one since the draw of an amplifier is very large). Instead you should look @ getting a home audio amplifier (often called a plate amp) to power your 2 10s.

I used an oooooold Kenwood amp I got for free that plugs into the wall to power a pair of 12's in my room while I didn't have a car, it worked really good. You don't need an especially expensive amp to run them speakers, just look around at garage sales and such.
