Anyone know if it's possible to hack apart a USB powered device such as the woot off lights and hook it up to a standard 12v power supply? I've got one USB light already, and the Oz duck, and soon to have the woot off lights, and I'd like to hook them all to one power source that isn't my computer.

USB is 5V, so you would need to step it down or find an appropriate 5V source.

So I got to use my new nav unit today. It came on the 3rd, but I was in Vegas so I didn't get to use it till today. I immediately upgraded the software to the latest version so I wouldn't have any "bugs" that I've read in the reviews. It's pretty easy to use from my experience. I haven't even opened the owners manual and I was already able to use it to go places (it has demo videos). I decided to drive around in an unfamiliar part of town to see if I could get lost (successful) and then fired it up to see if it could guide me home. It was successful in its attempts. I even purposely got off course to see if it would correct me. It didn't take long for it to refresh and get me back on track. The only downside I'd say is that the bluetooth feature is less than favorable. I could hear them just fine, but they complained about not being able to hear me. I dunno if that's a concern or not but its something to consider.

Those variable voltage AC adapters from walmart function at 4.5 and 6 volts, so that should still work fine. I just don't know how the wiring is inside a usb cable, and I really don't want to cut one up and ruin it.

Do all of yours work? My one keeps wanting to not spin. I've taken it apart and can't figure out what's wrong with it. The only thing that consistently fixes it is to whack it with my remote control icon_biggrin.gif
