idk why you would need to see it knowing you were speeding, I imagine if they ask they'll show it.

Did you here about those infrared sensors PA police are using? They're going to replace the white lines on the street and your radar detector won't be able to pick up the signal.

I've heard that in SC, you have the right to look at the readout.

Society Hill is a speedtrap. Set the cruise control right on the speed limit when you go through there.

I was comming home from Myrtle Beach too! The damn speed limit was 55, then it went to 35 for about 15 feet, no lie. Then back up to 55.

Kevin did they have three cars pull you over or what? And did you have to pay on the spot?

no...it was me and two of my friends travelling in three cars...
only one cop in an unmarked car (except for the light on the dash)...a mercury maybe?

he gave us three options:
pay then, challenge it in court (i live almost 7 hours away..i'm not driving back to challenge), or pay a "larger fee" at a later date via mail and receive no points on your license...so about a month later, i receive a letter asking for $250 icon_smile.gif
that's crooked and wrong but ...i don't want to have points on my license (which would probably increase my insurance)..and one of my buddies has his CDLs meaning that he can only receive 4 points before he loses them...so we just paid it and carried on...

I always figured they could clock any damn car they wanted, so even if I walk back to their cruiser and see a number on their gun read-out I have no way of knowing that it came from my vehicle . Proves nothing and can't do anything for the cop's attitude toward you .

Laser takes a photo of your plate when it reads you, I believe. Good luck getting out of THAT ticket.

The point of seeing the gun is to "prove" that they actually gunned you. The little training thing they get with speed devices mandates that they use radar or laser to "confirm witnessed speed as observed by the eye" or something - in other words, they're not supposed to sit atop the crest of hills or behind things and just blind gun you -- they're supposed to gauge your speed based on your time between two fixed points (speed traps usually are placed where they can observe two such points). Of course, most people don't know this and if you argue you might get hit with other random punative crap that they decide to tack on - always be polite when disputing the gun and never EVER tell the nice officer that they "gunned you wrong". If all else fails, remember that cops often don't bother to show up for traffic court, and in that case they dismiss it.

Honestly though, there's no device better than your eyes. I drive MUCH FASTER than the surrounding traffic on highways and somewhat faster than others on side strets (old motorcycle habit - I like to remain in control and hate counting on others to do the right thing behind me), and I can still generally spot a cop and decel before I get slammed. Remember the old motorcyclest's rule about "Over 75 -- do not lead" as well - when going above 80, try to find some sucker to run the gun for you. With my hot orange car I seldom have to drive for more than an exit before some kid in a buzzing Honda or Dodge decides to "put me in my place" and blast past. Catching up to them in about 7 seconds only seems to make them want to drive faster, and all the while I'm letting THEM be my"Speeding ticket". icon_cool.gif

Gotta run with the pack, lowers your odds of being the one to get stopped and makes it harder for anyone watching to judge your speed in comparison to other vehicles . The big empty stretch of the I-15 between Vegas and San Diego is great for this.. lotta folks wanna get through the nothing as quick as they can, its never hard to find a couple people that want to group up .

How did one car pull three cars over?

I got pulled over by a new dodge intrepred. Totaly undercover, it didn't even have the mirror spot light.

He just gave me a ticket and said if i can pay $200 and get points and they report it to my insurance company or pay $300 and just let it swing. Crooks.

Man what a *****. He saw 3 cars with WV plates and wasn't going to pull over just one. They probably only pull over out of state people because they know they won't drive 10 hours just to fight it.

Bastards! I wasn't about to drive 600 miles to fight it. I just had my graduation party so 300 was pocket change. To have that back icon_sad.gif lol

My mom got pulled over about a year ago along with 7 other cars on a stretch of I10 outside of Houston. The cop pulled her over and then on his pa system told her to stay where she was and in her vehicle until he returned. He returned with 7 other cars, ticketed all 8 of them for "racing" since they were all doing the same speed and it was 20 over the speed limit. I tell ya the extremes these guys will go to to bag a big number.
