When I give my car any decent amount of throttle and the RPMs reach over 3500 their is a back fire I can hear through the exhaust when I let off the throttle. I now LT1's do backfire sometimes but is this really normal for my car to be backfiring this much?

Thanks,

Chris

It could be a number of different things. Plugs, Plug wires, Opti-spark going bad. is your car a A4 or M6?

I had the same problem with my LT1.. had 145k miles or so on the Optispark though and I'm pretty sure was original plugs and cables... Replaced the plugs with splitfire 2's and replaced the optispark and cables.. was like night and day... It's a ***** to change the optispark though, so be forwarned.. you gotta pull off the main pulley, and the water pump to get to it... and then to change out parts of it, you gonna need a reverse E6 torx and a T4 torx driver (I think that's what I needed.. or it might have been reverse E4 and a T6 torx.. either way, they were sized that none of the auto stores around here stocked =/

From the backfiring it sound like your miss firing or you have some crazy detonation. If your plugs and wires are good then I would check the optispark. You can get them off ebay for under $200. Here is a install page for it.

Optisparks can cause all sorta of funky problems and they were one of the major flaws in 93-97 f-bodies. I am upgrading mine to a vented one over christmas when I do my rebuilt build. Rather do it while its apart than wait and have to do it later down the road.
