I have done some custom lighting in my car and am familiar with that. My brother asked me to do some custom LED lighting on his bar that he built. The problem I am running into is how I am going to convert the AC to DC current. I was wondering what other people have done in the past. I know I can do the computer power supply but was wondering if there is other ways around that. I don't know if he would like having to turn on the PSU everytime to get lights working. I saw radio shack has some ac to dc converters and was wondering if anyone had used those. I am trying to go for the cleanest and quiet install as possible, an ideas are greatly appreciated.

You can run them on AC, but it switches at 60hz. If the lights aren't directly visible and are just used to cast a glow, it is harder to notice. I haven't tested them to see how long it will last since they are designed for DC use. Since the house wiring is probably 115-120v you might as well just do DC converter since you won't be installing a house switch will you.

nope no house switch, on another forums, someone recommended that I take a 12v phone converter and just use that. Sounds like a solid plan for cheep without the noise so I am going to try that when I get home.

I've always just used the computer power supply . Assuming space isn't a factor (pretty much the biggest option for a power source) you can run a wire to a switch mounted anywhere on/under the bar that your brother wants it, then hide all the wires and the source itself .

I will second the notion to use computer power supply. Very easy to do and as cooper said you could locate the switch away from the power supply itself and mount it pretty much anywhere. The noise is also very minimal.

i found a ac plug with 12 v output on it at home. I clipped the end and stripped the wires and it works great. No power supply needed. The only reason I wanted to stay away from the power supply was the space needed and the fan running. I am trying to do the cleanest install possible on this. I will post pics when I am done.
