My front speakers in my car are the Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1's for the front... I had them installed and when you turn the volume up real high, they sound like **** (like they are bouncing in and out too forcefully with no compression)... So I thought maybe they just need an enclosure.. so I cut the circle shape on the door panel into a square and made an enclosure out of MDF that fit it... So I mount the speaker and test it. It puts off about half as much bass now, and it still sounds like **** when I crank it. Any thoughts?
Should I drill a half inch hole in the box to give it that ported effect? What else can I do? |

take them out of the enclosures. They aren't desinged to go in an enclosure like that.
How are theyw ired? How are they powered? Who installed them for you? Are they blown? |

what he said... they are meant to be free air speakers first of all... second check and double check polarity (the AA battery test) make sure they're not underpowered... that can blow a speaker quicker than overpowering will... |

I installed them... no they are not underpowered or overpowered, and yes, the polarity is correct. Those are kind of the obvious things =P I'm a sound tech amongst other things, so those obvious things were covered.. =) The box was just an idea to try and clean up the problem with too much air moving. I've seen other people do it before and it worked out well.. I just didn't have so much luck apparently... I pulled out some JB Weld and am currently re-attaching the cut off metal pieces to my door and returning it to the stock setup, then remounting the speaker... It's just sad that I went through so much trouble for nothing... Full day wasted on that when I could have been installing my UFO kit *grin*...
Sub box is coming along slowly, but with no experience at all doing fiberglassing, it's got a lot of things I gotta fix on it.. gotta cut pieces so it will fit back in the slot I originally formed it into hehe... Oh well.. Anyways.. if you have any idea's to improve the sound quality, let me know. This is a link to the amp I'm using: http://www.mtx.com/caraudio/products/amplifiers/thunder1004.cfm and this is a link to the speakers I'm having a problem with: http://www.infinitysystems.com/caraudio/product.aspx?ProdId='KAPPA+PERFECT6.1'&Ser=KPE&Cat=COS (That's all one big URL even though it cuts part of it out, so you'll have to copy and paste the full line into your browser... If you have any idea's lemme know =) |

infinity are not known for bass responce. they're european based speakers, and their music has less bass then ours... hense the amazing midrange quality of these speakers. x-over them to like 150 hz.
