Alright so I just found this and am excited since my 360 is giving me the flashing red lights as of now. Basically it states that Microsoft is now giving EVERY Xbox 360 ever made (new or old) a new 3 year extended warranty relating to the 3 red lights. So you can send in your Xbox 360 with red flashing lights and get it FIXED FOR FREE! They will even pay shipping! AND to make it better, if you had to send your Xbox back and paid for the fix, THEY WILL GIVE YOU YOUR MONEY BACK!!
They say it will cost them near 1.5 billion but they are going to do it. Microsoft FTW!! I am calling in a few minutes so I can send my 360 back to get fixed, FOR FREE! w00t w00t!! That $150 will go to a better place Whole story and other stuff here: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/petermooreletter.htm |

You sure it's every Xbox? No questions asked, as long as you have the ring of death?
Now I just have to figure out when this box was purchased... |

Just got off the phone with them after 45 minutes of hold time
They take your info, serial # on the box, give you a reference #, and now they are sending me a pre-paid box with all shipping materials included. All I have to do is box it up and ship it back once it gets here. There is actually a good amount of "three flashing red light problem" Xbox 360's on eBay. I mean this new warranty was released yesterday so it's not like it has been known for a while... |

So you don't need a receipt? I was worried I wouldn't be able to use it since I'm the 2nd owner.

Nope, he didn't say anything about a receipt, just asked for the serial #, looked up my info, confirmed that is where I want the pre-paid box shipped, gave me the reference # and told me to make sure I put that in the box when I ship it back and done.
Make sure you are in a quiet place when you call. It was noisy as ever and I could barely hear what he was saying. You could tell there were hundreds of people talking and phones ringing and everything else happening in the background |

Why didn't Microsoft just admit that something was wrong with their system a long time ago. They have had problems since pretty much day one and are just now agreeing that there is in fact a problem with the 360.

??? I believe they admitted there was a problem at the start... Everyone knew that some were getting the 3 red lights, each person with a different story of how they stumbled upon it. Now coming out and saying they will refund every cent they took for fixing 360's and will fix the rest for free is a huge step. Millions of people have been sending in their 360's to be fixed, they could have just taken $150 per fix and made oodles of money. Now they are giving back money and fixing for free. Total respect is what they have earned from me. That is a great thing to do, granted, the right thing should have been to be fixing them from the start. Took a while but all is good and my 360 will be fixed soon, can't complain at all |

The problem with sending ur xbox to MS is them replacing it with refurbished parts. I'd rather send it to an xbox specialist who can just do a fresh solder. Find one on craigslist and it'll be cheaper than to ship it to MS (who outsources ur xbox btw) and a way shorter waiting time.

Cheaper than to ship it to Microsoft when it is FREE to send it to Microsoft
If it works and keeps working, I could care less if the parts are refurbished. Better than having to pay money or have it sit here not playable |

I swapped mine about five months ago and it has been performing very well.
I was getting the red lights with my old one, doing the blanket trick to keep it alive because I played it every night. Then finally the blanket trick stopped working, I called Microsoft and they sent me a coffin to put it in. Sent me another one in a week. I didn't have to pay a dime. |

Yeah I tried the blanket trick but it worked for about half an hour then froze and went back into 3 light mode. So I was saving to send it back but now it'll be fixed soon enough!

I can see why you say the earned your respect for what they are doing, but that still doesn't explain why they didn't just fix the damn problem from the start.
Microsoft may have claimed there was a problem but until recently they have denied the HIGH "death" rate. |

everyone else plays too much, theyre too well practiced - read: 12 year old little boys. getting online to play a casual game just doesnt happen. between their loud, squeaky voices, and their godlike lamer skills - i just cant do it. |

I play Test Drive a lot just to have fun and take the Ninja off of extremely high cliffs and take pictures time to time, that is fun to do with other cars too
Mostly I play Gears or Halo 2, those online are as much fun as you can get, or NCAA online I feel you with the little kids and their voices, however, I have yet to come across one who can beat me so they shutup pretty fast

well, i see you have vegas.... you should get gears, halo2, or call of duty 3
of course your not gonna be good without practice. I like getting my ass whooped every once in a while. It keeps me in check, but i only get out played like once every month. But, yes, i do understand that it gets annoying. You could always leave the headset off. |

Call of Duty 4 looks amazingly awesome. Just saw the creators play part of it at the Microsoft E3 07' Press Conference. Looks fuggin sick! Along with a new Halo 3 trailer, damn that game is going to be amazing.

Halo 3 will be great... definitely picking it up... cod4 as well. Cod is gonna be different though. I think they took a big risk by going modern warfare.

Modern Warfare is gonna be off the hook. COD3 Rocks bawls, online is awesome. I was dubbed "The Silent Sniper". I rarely say anything and my best weapon is the rifle
I'm slowly buying games back that I once had...just to play them online. I got Lost Planet a couple weeks ago, and Gears of War will be here today or tomorrow. I beat them and sold them, should have just kept them the first time I had them I don't think I will be buying R6:Vegas again though, after I beat the game I played a TON of online and it got boring.
Test Drive Unlimited is fun, I haven't fired it up for a loooong time though. Been Playing a lot of MLB2k7, but people online use classic swing mode instead of swing stick so it's like a home run derby. Hmmm, I'm trying to think what else I have...I dunno, I'm at work. I have a stack of pretty fun stuff. Just bought Mario Party 8 for Wii too...very, very awesome. |

There was always a problem ... Everyone knew this ... They are fixing everything for free so it basically is a total recall on all units ... uh, ya - who cares? ... My Xbox is being fixed for free and will be in full working condition. At least Microsoft is doing something for people rather than scheming to get PS3's off the shelf because that's the only way they can sell them. Microsoft could have sat back and watched $150 come in for every repair and roll in money, but now they do this. Major props, major props.
That's all you need to know. Problem is fixed on new consoles, ALL Xbox 360's ever made are covered with a warranty for the problem that arose to be fixed for free, and they are giving refunds to anyone who had to pay for a repair before the new warranty came out. I will leave with one last ... |

Seems to me like someone tried to get their system out before things were properly tested. I think it is great that they are offering to fix this for free, but it is also somethign they shld have done long ago.

I don't think they took a risk going modern warfare. Look at what Battlefield 2 has done with the computer game market. I'll most likely be picking up COD4 as well. |

Already said, like 50 times. YES they should have done it earlier but the fact that they are doing it now is a great thing. They could have sat back and rolled in repair money but instead they turn to help out the consumer and fix their mistake. Noble and props go out. Ya know, when you have the best console, sometimes you are just so excited to get it out to the public something goes wrong, it happens. But stepping up, admitting the problem, giving back money, and fixing for free is a noble thing to do instead of trying to deny and roll around in money. And I agree Chicago, I have NO PROBLEM with them upping the ante into "modern." The game looks amazing and I will defiently be picking it up on the launch day. |
