Wow....yet another piece of technology that I will have to pass on

There is no other industry that one company can release a thousand different items that do the exact same thing and sell all of them. They pretty much all do the same thing, look the same way, but yet they still sell well enough for more to come out.

I think the iPods are breeding.

There are plenty of reasons I wouldn't want any iPod or iPhone. Mainly, Apple has no new technology in any of their devices. All they do is take existing technology and put a neat GUI on it. Not to mention Apple makes you us their specific software that's not compatible w/ anything else. Example, you have to use Apple's headphones on the iPhone because of the recessed headphone jack. I'll buy something more compatible and it'll still be a lot cheaper icon_smile.gif

Check HERE. I found that after about 5 min. of searching and it is $300. Not only is it WiFi and an mp3 player(an mp3 player that will play WMA & mp3; iPod doesn't do anything but mp3), it also has GPS navigation.
I have an mp3 player that has: mp3 and WMA support, videos, voice recorder, AM/FM radio, and even a dictionary. It has 10gb internal storage with an SD slot for more storage. It's also touchscreen with no stupid scroll wheel or buttons. It does everything an iPod does PLUS MORE! The best part is....it was only $100.
Why so cheap? It's an off brand so I'm not paying to "look cool" because I have something made by Apple.

(response to mr power ranger)

lose. wouldnt want a few things in this package:

cant tell if its a refurb or not, but i bet it is, alot of things on buy.com are
SD storage FTL
Windows OS based FTL
you are wrong on "ipod doesnt do anything but mp3" as in the mio doesnt do AAC/apple lossless
(who uses wma anyway? its garbage)
where do you get 10gb of storage? i cant find any listing that says anything but 2gb internal
applecare ftw. anything breaks, its covered. which reminds me, who the hell is MIO and do you really trust their support/warranty?
Cnet doesnt really care for it (6/10), which means quite a bit, really.

wouldnt mind the gps, but i already have it anyway.

so... that makes it $300 for a superior product made by an industry leader w/ excellent support, or $300 on a no-name product with more features, done poorly?

I hate that they made it look like a cheap iPhone. Maybe it's because I'm a snobby iPhone user, but from the pics I've seen, it does look like a cheap knock-off icon_sad.gif

I'd want it but I'd prefer capacity to thickness. The only reason I even want to replace my ipod is for more storage, although flash hard drives are awesome, I just don't see changing the music and videos on my Ipod daily as my mood changes.

Still doesn't make them $200 cheaper, but o well, I might have to hop on buying an iPhone if they are only $300.

I'm rather upset that they lowered the prices of the iPhones... The damn thing hasn't even been out for 6 months and they knocked almost 30% of the price off! I can't believe they would do it from a business stand point.
1) They have **** off all of the "early adopters" and basically said "sucks to be on the cutting edge, next time you should consider waiting"
2) They are taking money away from themselves because the iPhone is still in a decent demand
3) It's almost christmas season so people would have paid extra for it anyways!

The only positive thing they did was give us a rebate option ($100 in Apple bucks), but it's too little too late.... I was just starting to like Apple too

waah.

theres always been an early adopter tax, but 60ish days to a price cut is pretty quick. but they split the difference (in price change) with you, i struggle to find the downside in that.

So is the 8gb still $600?
The 4gb is probably $300 now because they didn't sell and they're gunna stop making them.

EDIT: I checked the website and saw that both prices went down.

That's not what you're supposed to get when you are an early adopter. I knew there would be a price cut, but no one could expect a 30% off sale!

If the Xbox360 came out with an extra $200 on the price tag that was later dropped 90 days later, you bet your ass there would be an uprising of angry people. You can't help but feel like you were taken advantage of in a case like this.

Early adopters should be a company's best friend because we put the most faith in the company. This was my first Apple product and I was very happy with it -- even talking about buying a nice Mac. I don't feel the same way anymore. Give me a couple days and I may recover, but I'm not sure.

This is quoted from Apple's CEO.

Quote:

I have received hundreds of emails from iPhone customers who are upset about Apple dropping the price of iPhone by $200 two months after it went on sale. After reading every one of these emails, I have some observations and conclusions.

First, I am sure that we are making the correct decision to lower the price of the 8GB iPhone from $599 to $399, and that now is the right time to do it. iPhone is a breakthrough product, and we have the chance to 'go for it' this holiday season. iPhone is so far ahead of the competition, and now it will be affordable by even more customers. It benefits both Apple and every iPhone user to get as many new customers as possible in the iPhone 'tent'. We strongly believe the $399 price will help us do just that this holiday season.

Second, being in technology for 30+ years I can attest to the fact that the technology road is bumpy. There is always change and improvement, and there is always someone who bought a product before a particular cutoff date and misses the new price or the new operating system or the new whatever. This is life in the technology lane. If you always wait for the next price cut or to buy the new improved model, you'll never buy any technology product because there is always something better and less expensive on the horizon. The good news is that if you buy products from companies that support them well, like Apple tries to do, you will receive years of useful and satisfying service from them even as newer models are introduced.

I think its pathetic that the product following up their iPod video (i own one) has exponentially less space. 8gb???? I have an 80gb device right now that will kick its ass. Is it flashy? no. Is it new and trendy any more? no. But it stomps the shi-nittles out of 8gb, 4 of my full length movies and a few of my mix sets will top that off.

they still have the ipod video, its the ipod classic, and they have 80gigs and 160gigs. ive played with the iphone, love it. but i dont want to switch services for it. also, the ipod touch would be cool, but the max they have is 16gigs?? weak in my opinion. and now i heard that microsoft cut 50$ off of the zune to "compete" with apple. and at least the zune is 30 gigs, granted not touchscreen but meh could live with out it.

also considering a macbook or mac mini, still havent figured out pc or mac for the studio i want to setup.......hmmm
