I am looking to hook up my dual cathodes on the top of my car near that little light thingy..so i can turn it on with the switch..the only thing is i dont kno which is the positive wire and which is the ground..
The two wires are

Red/black line
Red/White line

I think its red/black ground
and red/white positive
but not 100%sure and i dont wanna blow the transformer so i need to make sure thanx

My guess is that they are both power wires... one is a constant power so that the switch will turn the dome light on and off, and the other is a power line that's only on when the door is opened. The light is probably grounded out to the body of the car somewhere in the assembly. Use a voltmeter and test it with door open and shut =)

As I said, one of the power sources will be on all of the time, the other will only be on when the door is open or the power switch is flipped on.

Why don't you get a voltmeter (you can get one for as low as $10-$15) and do some tests to find out what wires are hot and what wires aren't under what situations. Then you won't have to second guess your work all of the time, and you won't have to worry about things not working the way you want them to. When working with electrical, it's always best to know what you are cutting into before you actually do it.

I agree mav but give him credit lol

Do this with it set the ohms meter to dc voltage now from the meter polls you have a black and a red lead which you use to test circuits put any of those probes on 1 wire end and the other on the other wire, if the polarity is in reverse it will show you on the meter by a negative line if no line appears then wherever that red probe is connected too thats your positive line good luck
