Ok guys an i know Tim will probably hit this question hard. So here's the deal. As i know now no matter if you install projectors aftermarket or what not even installing them and putting in HID's are still illegal. So heres My Two questions. If i were to install Ford factory Mach SVT headlights and install the SVT bumper with projector foglights what kinds of legality problems would play into this. Because these would both be factory parts built to specifications for road use. I was looking at getting some 8k for the head lights and then 3k for the fogs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's likely that you would never have any problems with the law. Personally I would go with nothing over 6K for the headlights, because they attract more attention as they do not look stock and the provide less light output than HID headlights around the 4500K color temp.

You will get pulled over if you have 3000k HIDs in your headlights.
(I might of read that wrong. You mentioned something about fogs in your bumper too. 3000k fogs shouldn't be a problem. I would choose 4100k instead of 6000k for headlights, but that's just me.) Most cases cops don't know if your car comes with projectors from the factory or you retrofitted them in. If you're driving a 1994 Chevy Cavalier they might know better though. Is it illegal, yes. Are you going to get pulled over and written a ticket, probably not. I'm sure the Police would prefer you to have properly aimed projectors instead of using HIDs in halogen housings blinding everyone. |

Yeah true man. Well the 6000k are going into the MAch hid housings. Reason im doing this is the focus is going to be a complete svt four door swap. Now for the 3000k those are going into the foglights that are on either side of the svt front bumper.

i thought that HID's that came with housings made for them were legal. i've seen them sold with a complete system with power supply housings and bulbs, why are these lilegal? trying to stay on the same general topic

Well from what i have gathered here and from other reputable sites it seems like that if the car wasn't meant to have them in the first place then it's considered illegal. I can see why though as most cars are not equipped with the right projectors to cut and aim the light correctly thus blinding on coming drivers. Even though they are for a focus they are not meant for mine. Though there are plenty of foci driving around my city with them in (SVT's) so it's going to be pretty easy to sneak away with them in.

As long as the Projector Housings are DOT approved and have been stamped...you cannot be ticketed....
The Big problem is that people build their own, buy ones that are not approved and that is where you CAN get into trouble.. I ran 6000K hids in the headlights and 8000K hids in my fogs on the stang (robbie check my gallery for pics) and never once got stopped for them in the 3+ years I had them installed... I would say go for it Robbie, I doubt you will get haslted and with using the SVT bumper you will be fine...just make sure to adjust the beams down |

Thanks Stang appreciate all the help here. Yeah i didn't think that with bothe the headlights and the bumper i would be seen as after market.
Anyways I am going to go with the 6000k in the headlights and then fit some projectors into the bumper where the old shieldless housings are now. and throw some 3000k into those bad boys. No problem man i will be sure to aim them down as there is a cavalier in our town with some and they go everywhere i just want to ram the guy sometimes lol.
