Ok well i used some VHT Niteshade on my tails and sidemarkers. I did this on my stock tails and stock sidemarkers because i heard that using niteshade on clear things will turn purple in a short amount of time.

I put a strobe in both tails in the trun signal section oh and now my bulb is working fine so who the hells knows whats up with that lol. I took a bulb from the back and put it up front so i had 2 working strobes up front and it oddly works fine now lol. Also to come is the tinting of my 3rd brake light. Day pics will be coming tomorrow it was too dark to get both sidemarkers so you will be able to see them all in the day pics.

A vid of the strobes in the new tails will be done upon request if anybody wants to see them.

Eh need clearer pics to really say. They look a little flat to me. Did you clear coat and wet sand, and polish them? Looks as though they were just sprayed on. Good still very big improvement but i would have cleared them alot to get a nice shine from them. Also is the nite shade on the inside of the lens? If not watch for chips and cracks and such carefully.

Can i see the vid?

I used it on the outside yes i dont think it would have turned out as well on the inside because of my lens and getting my tails open are a project in itself i hear. They have not been polished i need to know how to go about doing so. There is 3 coats of Duplicolor cleat coat on it and 3 coats on Polyurethane clear coat on it. And yes robbie i did wetsand them also.

Any reason you chose to use two different clears on it?

Making sure because for some reason the things look awfully dull and don't seem to have any kind of shine. And while taking them apart can be some work (baking and then doing it and rebaking to get glue hot hard icon_confused.gif ) I would say its much more worth it. Less chance for chips or ANYTHING to happen, and won't have to worry about anything else of the sort.

don't get me wrong i love your new tail setup but they def would have alot more longevity on the inside. And i would really like to see them polished and such to see the shine they present.

BTW: Just ordered VHT nite shade this evening. Will be coming soon then to back the tails, and tint them except for the reverse part.

Robbie your a PITA lol its all cold out now im in shorts and now its raining and you want a damn vid. Well i got it lol of course i had to take a 2nd after i had to go inside and find my remote for the strobes to change the pattern cuz the strobes were too fast for the camera also dont mind my little doggy lol. I also used 2 clears because the Duplicolor was turning white and **** and there was no shine at all to them and the polyurethane did a much nicer job and i hear its better than just plain old clear coat.

EDIT: Once again how do i go about polishing them? I cant use just plain old wax can i? Im pretty sure my wax says not to use on plastics.....?

The pic probably don't do it justice, which is why you can't see the shine. Day time pics?

I don't really see you being able to tint the inside of the lens, considering the outside is red, wouldn't the lens still be visibly red?

Looks very good though, ryan.

^^ Actually thats not the case. When you do take it apart and nite shade the inside of it it will tint just like he has on his but will protect it from any kind of damage to it. I have seen it done on hundreds of foci and other vehicles and all of them being on the inside of the lens. When mine comes in this week and I do it ill post up pics of how it works.

That's cool ryan, was jw, will be wetsanding every coat here to make sure everything goes on as it should and then using clear and polishing to get it to shine even on the inside. icon_twisted.gif

Honestly, how big of a concern is chips on the TAIL lights. If it was on the headlights I could see a concern, but the tail lights?

I think they look pretty good. I also second on them looking a little flat. Maybe it's just the picture. But they still look much better than stock.

^^^ It's not a big deal until you have put the work into doing it and then it just starts chipping or cracking for whatever reason. There are people who have done it and they can still chip, doesn't mean it can't happen. I do like your tails. Do you have any shots of just the brake lamps on?

Yupp! I put around 6 coats of the niteshade on too so all in all turned out pretty well. Im also putting 2 more strobes in the tails because each part of the tail is sectioned off so when all is said and done the whole tail will be flashing.

Looks good man. Really does good luck with local Po Po. I know all over the states its all REALLY different. So let me know. Doing mine this week and then the entire car will be blacked.

Hopefully you dont use the strobes as turn signals right?

Just use 3M Scratch remover or something like ColorX if you only want to polish the tails - it'll do to give them a good shine.

If you want to do the WHOLE CAR however, I'd recommend getting a proper polisher (Porter Cable random orbital) and some good product- doing a whole car by hand is a real PITA and takes FOEVEVER if you do it right. Check the Detailing forum - there's a thread on polishers with a lot of good info and links.

As for Niteshade turning purple - I used it only side markers and it lasted for well over a year on my old car with no purple at all. Nor did it chip.

I've used Nite Shades and don't like the results. It looks good in low light conditions but when in direct sunlight, it looks purplish/brown. It has gotten worse over time. I never clear coated mine so not sure if that would have helped. This winter, I'm gonna send all of my stuff out and have it professionally painted and have them add metal flake instead. My 2 cents.

You should wetsand all the lenses you applied the tint to then do a few coats of clear. You probably have some major orange peel going on. It looks good now, but will look 100x better after the wetsanding and clearcoating

^^ Yes it is, when everything is done and such the results are amazing. You still have a hint of red but it works amazing. This is an example of what mine will look like either this weekend or next shiney and this is on the inside.

BTW: Wetsanding between coats of niteshade vastly improves the outcome as well.

Oh and BTW: he did the 3rd Brake Light, might want to think about yours as well to complete the look.

^^^ i was going to say that too.. they were tinted on the outside of the lense..

tinting on the inside does nothing.. the lense itself is still red.. so that means it will still be red..unless your tinting the inside of clear lenses.. not red tails..

oh wow someone that agrees with me!!! i said that but Robbie insisted that doing it on the inside looks better and is possible. Wouldnt the bulbs heat up and eventually kinda like burn the paint if it was on the inside??
