A co worker of mine has a 2001 mitsu eclipse gt, he also has a set of gauges to go in, hence the subject. Anyone here have an eclipse with gauge overlays? I'm trying to find the nearest power source, generally like on my alero I'd tap into the power running to the gauge cluster, not sure which wire it is on the eclipse however.
this guy's a packrat for aftermarket ricing out his car, i gave in and told him I'd help him out with his gauges finally. If anything I'll test the voltage, but if anyone knows right off or knows where i can find which wire i'm looking for it'd be a lot easier. I'll be hooking them during work hehe. |

If it's anything like my 2003 eclipse, you may have to do some rewiring. I rewired my fuse box inside because of how some things were supplied power and when etc.. My center console light that came stock (which I changed to a blue LED) was on the same fader as my guages, and when checking voltage on it, one line was 12v while the other would be 8v instead of just a constant ground. It was setup so that the 8v would cancel out 8v on the 12v line giving the light 4v. When I adjusted the dimmer towards full, the 8v would drop down all the way to 0 feeding the light the full 12v.
If you want to keep the dash lighting on the dimmer and use LEDs, you may have to play with it. The resister will probably resist so much current that the LEDs won't even light until you get the dimmer to 50% or higher, and then they will start to come on. Or you can just bypass that wiring like I did on mine, and run a straight wire off the fuse box for it. I just know they did some lame wiring with my eclipse so you'll prob have to play with it too. They had my ciggarette lighters turn off when the key was out of the ignition, and they had the clock wired to the cigarette lighters, so when I rewired the cigarette lighters, the clock was always on. I had to rewire the clock because of that and yadda yadda.. pain in he butt =P |
