Just ordered the PDX 4.150. At the bottom of the description, it says 4 gauge amp wiring kit recommended. U guys think 4 gauge is good or is 8 gauge better? Does it really matter? Also, which amp wiring kit do you guys recommend? I'm hooking this up to 2 crossovers and 2 6x9s. What else should I get? Thanks.

4ga is bigger than 8ga so 4ga is normally better than 8.

Personally if the amp fits 4ga, I would buy 4ga wire.

Already have a sub hooked up. The details are located in my sig. Should I get a dual amp wiring kit? Anyone recommend a specific wiring kit brand or are they all more or less the same?

Personally wouldnt go with Knuconceptz. I ordered from them and the rca's that were included with the kit were complete crap. Soldering on the connection broke while installing. They replaced them for free (minus my shipping costs) when i sent them back. Then it just happened again. Buy some quality RCAs imo. I got mine from http://www.edesignaudio.com/

Quick question, to use a 4 channel amp kit, do I need a headunit with 3 preouts (assuming one is used by my sub)? Mine is only 2 preouts, so if the answer is yes, can someone explain my choices at the moment? Thanks.

You don't NEED 3 pre-outs, but it makes things easier. And Knukonceptz RCAs are nice imo. Don't see the point of having the remote wire built in when the remote connection is 99.9% of the time on the opposite side of the amp. But you need to be gentler with your RCAs icon_razz.gif The Tsunami stuff from eD is good too...but the business practices of eD disgust me.

How is it all hooked up/what happens without the 3rd preout?

You just get two RCA-Y Adapter cables, 1male to 2female like this

And hook all the channels up to the same RCAs. You just lose control over fade and balance.

Actually you need the OPPOSITE Two males one female ... Female plugs into the RCA from the head unit and One male goes to the four channel , The other goes to the sub amp ...

If it was me I'd use one larger power cable to the rear then a distribution block to power the sub amp AND the 4 channel

How does the female plug into the HU? The preouts are female on the HU...

Most of the time you RCA out's are female and the RCA in's are male.

Base off what you are saying, and kenwood's website, you actually only have 1 set of RCA outs, that are already being used for you sub.

I'm no expert so I can't say if there is any way for you to do what you are wanting with that HU.

Ya I know what ur referring to. The site shows the HU has green lighting on it, but mine is blue. I'm gonna look at it tonight to be sure. If it's only 1 for sure, then new HU time! If that's the case, Pioneer or Alpine HU?

I have always used Street Wires amp wiring kits and always been happy. My trucks is wired up with mostly Street Wires stuff. The only things I can think of for the stereo in it that aren't are from the amp to the subs are Monster Cable wire and from the amp to the rear speakers are Monster Cable. Everything else I think is Street Wires. The Honda has a Street Wires amp kit but I don't think the speaker wire I've used is Street Wires.

If your HU doesn't have RCA pre-outs for your front/rear speakers, you need a line output converter like this

Can get that one at walmart. Speaker wires in, RCAs out.

Can I purchase a 4 gauge amp install kit and a 4 channel RCA cord separately? I assume I can, but maybe I'm wrong...

Oh what size fuse should I get on the amp kit? It's for an Alpine PDX 4.150 amp (600 watts RMS at 4ohm)
