Im not sure if anybody here would know or not. If i have strobes mounted on the exterior of my vehicle but NOT on only in shows and not any road would it be considered impersonating an officer? I dont think it matters where i live because it would probably be the same everywhere.

Depending WHERE you live Red/Blue are police/ fire ...
White/Yellow can be used by either The trouble can occur if the police get a bug up their butt , and on the ticket write "Impersonating a police officer" ... A buddy was goofing around a thought it'd be funny to "Pull a friend over for speeding" He drove up behind him hit his strobes and he pulled over ... Unfortunately for him a cop was hiding beside a building and witnessed it ... All said and done the stunt cost him just shy of $5000 and 200 hours of community service I've read several different laws one was OK as long as you are 150 feet from any public road ... Another was 100 yards from any public road ... Bottom line if they can't see it they can't ticket you for them |

Depends on the state law....most will have a RCW regarding the use of LED's and external flashers on vehicles (ie strobes)...regardless of color, if they are visible from a public roadway good chance you will get in trouble with them. Blue and Red are attention getters and eventually you will be questioned about them if you use them on a regular basis.
I would keep it to shows only...and not just parking lots unless you have a large gathering of people/cars with people actively walking around. Even then you could still be questioned... Some officers will write it as an equip. violations, others more severe...really depends on what you are doing at the time you are stopped/questioned though.....Most RCW's will dictate at least 150+ ft from a public roadway. |

no no no lol i must not have been clear enough. i wont be using them on public roads at all or parking lots only shows. I am curious if it is illegal to just have them mounted next to my License plates. I wont be using them even in parking lots. They will have clear lenses also as they will be TIR3's. I am only curious to know if it is illegal to have them mounted on my car but NEVER have them on while on the road or parking lots. Thanks again lol

Well here if you even have them mounted they could ticket you, but all of the police here are not going to pull you over unless they see something flash and then they won't even look for them....

Technically, impersonating an officer is an action. Unless you have Police/sherrif etc markings on your vehicle you should be legally okay.
If' they're strobe tubes with the filtered lenses, your best bet to avoid trouble is to put plastic covers over them until show. If they're LEDs you're probably okay. I have R/B LED visor lights on my car and LEOs don't really care when i tell them it's for shows. |

They are LEDs. TIR3's to be exact. Going to be 6 of them. All i have is LED except my headlight and tail light strobes. I find LEDs to be more reliable. Im trying to get the flanges on the TIRs's to be painted to match my car so they blend in a little. They will be placed next to the back plate, on the front where a front LP would be and one on each mirror.
