So the rims I have on now, I plan on keeping as my winter rims. The clear coat is coming off, they're dirty, all that ****. So come spring, I'm buying new rims. I've said if before, that I'm trying to stick with OEM on the car, such as foglights, painted headlights, etc. So I came across a civic on a forum that I fell for.

Current Rims:

Want opinions, good or bad. I really like the look of the SI rims, and they're decently cheap.

I think they look like flowers.

Current rims are MUCH better. Just refinish them. Have them powdered or something.

No idea. All depends on place. I get anything i want powdered for free through my car club. Just gotta buy the actual powder.

Call around. They will probably all be different.

Damn 500? I used to charge 250 to 300 when I did them.

I'm not sure what shops around here do them for anymore Sick, but it used to be in that range.

If you have access to an old oven, and an air compressor, buy your own powdercoater. I made a LOT of money with mine, then I moved and didn't have the facilities to do it anymore so I sold all of it.

I'll be buying another one eventually, I loved being able to do anything I wanted. Every part I could powdercoat, I did. biglaugh.gif

Oooo. What temp did the oven have to be at? As we have a baking oven at work for force drying paint. There is everything but the acutal gun. What does a gun run for?

I answered you on aim...but for others interested...

400 to 420 degrees is what I usually baked the parts at
Gun and kit of everything I needed ran me about 250
Powder was like 15 to 20 bucks for enough powder to do 30 square feet IIRC

You can get the kit I had, on eBay now. Chicago Electric kit and it worked great for a few years until I sold it. It's probably still working today to whoever I sold it to. biglaugh.gif

This is a Chicago gun, but it's not a kit

I'm trying to find the website I used to order my stuff through, they had the kits on the website before they started selling through ebay.

No, the kit I started with was the gun, powder, tons of silicone caps and plugs (big money in those), tons or high temp tape (also expensive), lots of hangers and hooks, etc, etc

I finally found the website I used for my supplies.

www.columbiacoatings.com

The kit I had was the deluxe kit, it looks like they took some stuff out of it though.

I've bought a lot of stuff from:

www.eastwood.com

I plan on getting one of their hot coat kits. I have a couple of buddies who have them and they love them. My local powder shop said they will do 17" rims for about $75 each if they are painted. If the rims are powdered, the cost goes up because the original coating is much harder to remove.

I think they have to heat it up to remove it. Never seen it done but the powder shop said they have to "burn" it off.

They sell powder stripper. It's expensive. I tried to remove factory powder on some aftermarket wheels once, and every set of wheels I did after that I just powdered right over the existing stuff...That should tell you how much of a pain in the ass it is. biglaugh.gif

Eastwood's stuff is way overpriced IMO, I have tried them before and the quality is the same as the supplier I was using.

That may be so, but I'll buy from them as they have a life-long customer in me. I bought a lot of stuff from them when I was restoring my mustang and I was always impressed with their products, shipping, and customer service. Its kind of like Oznium to me. I'll pay a little more if I have to.

Sick asked for some pictures via AIM...

I found some stuff I PC'ed back in the day. This is only a little bit of it, but it's all I could find and I put it all in an album.
