CDT Audio makes very nice components...check out woofersetc.com for fairly good prices (best I could find, at least)

Thats what i have heard. I have never heard of them but more than likely thats what i am leaning towards! Are all CDT components pretty much good? Or will i have to spend like $300 + to get a good set? What brand amp should i look into getting? Should i get the amp before the speakers or the speakers before the amp? Would it be bad to have the speakers hooked up to the HU and not by an amp or do i NEED an amp right away? I have also heard about people only getting components for the front? Why so and would i get coax for the rear or would i get a midrange speaker? Sorry about all the questions. Thanks!

I have the CDT EF-61's and I think they are great speakers for the price.
If you are getting components like the CDT's you pretty much should install the amp and comps at the same time. Running them off the HU really is reccomended. So yes you need an amp right away. I normally buy amps to match speakers, but if I am buying them, I buy them at the same time so the choice impacts each other. Running the front speakers from an amp and the rear speakers off the HU is perfectly fine. I did that until I unhooked the rear speakers. (I prefer the sound when they are not connected) HoolaKinG: They can be gotten cheaper, you just have to know the right people |

CDTs have gotten great reviews. I have Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1 components (6.5) and Infinity Kappa 692.9i speakers (6x9). I've heard they are sharper in the highs compared to CDTs. MB Quarts are also very good components, but are even sharper than Infinitys.
Might be best to go in to a store and listen to all the different brands and choose the one u like best. Whatever u do, please don't go Alpine for speakers. Definitely get the Alpine PDX 4.150 for an amp for ur components though. |

You don't HAVE to get an amp at the same time you get the speakers. I would HIGHLY recommend you do, but they will work off the HU. They won't sounds as good or be as loud off the HU but they will play music.
Saying that, I would buy them (amp and speakers) both at the same time. |

PwrRngr, u failed to mention that the potential problem with not amping the speakers. Besides the speakers being under powered, u can strain the HU too much and u ruin the HU. Then u gotta get a new HU and an amp.
Ryan does ur HU have 3 sets of preouts? |

Only if you turn it up and listen to it when it sounds crappy. If you actually LISTEN to your speakers, notice distortion, and then turn it down then you will have ZERO problems. If you listen to you speakers you should never have a problem w/ blown anything. You start to blow things when you simply want LOUD and don't care what they sound like. THERE WILL ALWAYS BE DISTORTION BEFORE BLOWING SPEAKERS OR AMPS! Assuming they are wired correctly and have proper airflow (neither are a problem for running speakers of a HU). Like I said, they won't sound as good and won't be as loud, but they will still play music. I also said I would recommend he buy amp and speakers together. I was just stating that it's possible to buy the seperate and cause NO damage. |

Yeah, I used to have Kappas, but found that the highs were too sharp and hurt my ears after a while, regardless of volume. CDTs are just as crisp, but not as piercing - CDTs have silk tweeters (in general) as opposed to the metal tweeters Infinity tends to use |

If they're underpowered, why wouldn't a user turn it up? Yes I agree it can be done without ruining the HU, but let's say his dad/mom go in the car and do not know this information and crank the HU to hear more. **** could happen. Ryan, we're basically just saying get a good amp for ur speakers. |

I am going to try an expand my stock hole from a 4x6 to a 5 1/4" and if i can i will be getting. CDT CL-51A-25 PRO . I just have to find a good amp to power them now. Any suggestions of actual amps instea of just brands now? The components are 150rms.

x2 on the getting the amp and speakers. I know what you're saying but if mom and dad get in the car. But, they'll turn it up and notice..."holy **** these speakers sound like ass." In order to blow the amp there will be distortion. If people were smart about listening to systems, things wouldn't get blown. If you under power you speakers, it is possible that you'll turn them up, the amp in the HU will clip and distort (WHICH WILL BE VERY NOTICEABLE), and then you'll blow the HU. I'm not saying you can't blow your amp. I'm saying that you'll only blow it if your dumb and like to hear distortion. |

I have the Alpine PDX 4.150, but if it's not in ur budget go with the PDX 4.100. However, the 4.150 really isn't that much more than the 4.100. |
