LED's flashing

Hi,
I just ordered some of the waterproof LED strips. Now I haven't received them yet because they are on back order, but I am trying to get as much info now to make the installation easier.

Anyhow, I am trying to mount the strip above my headlights so it looks similar to the new Audi's, Porsche's, etc. Now I want to connect the strip to my side marker lights. By doing this they will turn on when the car is on and they will light up when I use the FOB and keep it more stock like. The problem is that my car sends low voltage pulses when the car is off for a minute or two to check if any light bulbs are burnt out. It isn't noticeable with normal light bulbs, but since LED's don't need much power, they flash. Is there anything I can add to prevent the flashing?

Thanks! icon_biggrin.gif

Use a relay that requires 12V to turn on. Then when you get your low voltage pulses (I would assume they are 5V pulses), the relay won't trip. Plus, relays are CHEAP!

Well, right now I'm planning a solution. My friend and I found that the car sends out 1.5 volt pulses. He thinks that if we put the right kind of resistor in we can solve it. So when I get the strips, I guess we will find out.

Depending on the frequency of the pulses, you could use an inductor or capacitor to filter them out. There's a LOT of cheap ways to do it with passive components.

How fast do the lights flash. Hook up LEDs to the wires. Then when you turn the car off and the pulses start, take the time from the first one to the last one (also count how many there are). Take the number of pulses and divide by the time from the first to the last.

Ironically, my 4chip superfluxes does flashes 6 timed (faint) when the car's system (ACC) is turned on- as it does the system check for bulb- out, etc. However it doest do it when the car is shut off. I actually kinda like it.
And obviously, there are no side- effects since ive had my fog-grill LEDs for almost 6000k of driving (always on) and no problems whatsoever.
