wire it to something besides the BATTERY.

Tap into a 12v power source somewhere. Cigarette lighters work great.

The fact that it worked last night, and now doesn't leads me to unfortunately believe one of the tube's wires got shorted out from melting on a hot exhaust line.

Try unplugging all four tubes, then replace the fuse, see if the display lights up. Then plug in the tubes one at a time.

Do what Phil said. There's a short somewhere you just have to find where. Wiring it straight to the battery or tapping into a circuit makes ZERO difference.

It'll actually have the possibility to be a cleaner install if you run it to the battery. Splicing into factory wiring can lead to problems and headaches later.
