Hello everyone! I just bought the flexible LED strips in order to install them into the gauge cluster of my 1997 Honda Civic Ex, but as you can imagine, there are some areas in the cluster where the LEDs will not fit.

I am following a write-up in order to do this project, and in the writeup they use cheap LED strips from ebay, I chose to get lights from oznium and chose the flexible led strips because of the similar qualities (as far as flexibility and ease of use) it seemed to share with the cheap ones in the writeup.

Anyways, the writeup mentions cutting the strips, stripping back some copper backing, and then extending the positive and negative contacts of the wire using 22 gauge wire. Upon receiving the flexible strips, I realize I have no idea if this is even possible.

Could the strip be cut, extended and reattached to itself in order to get through those tight areas? Or did I buy the wrong product? If I did, what would you recommend I get in order to complete this project?

I know this is probably super confusing, so I'm going to include the writeup I'm using for you guys as well.

Thanks in advance.

Try and exchange it for the Ribbon strips. Extremely thin, and extremely flexible. Very bright as well.

Is it possible for me to cut them and extend them as directed by the write up?

I really think the LED Ribbon Strips will be better...

If you have a spare moment, please have a look at the FAQ's on the product page, as you'll find a lot of helpful info.

For your convenience, I've copied the first two from the Flexible LED Strip product page:

----

Can the LED strips be cut or trimmed?
Yes! You can easily cut the LED strips. Use a sharp utility knife. The LEDs are wired in groups of 3, so you should cut every 3 LEDs.
Note: Some of the shorter lengths can't be cut because of a critical power wire inside. Before you cut, just make sure you won't be cutting a power wire, otherwise your LED strip could be damaged.

Can the cut section of the strip be re-used?
While it is physically possible, it is not a simple procedure and not worth the effort. For practical purposes, you are better off discarding the cut portion.

----

To exchange the LED strip, please send it back with a note. You can find our shipping address on the contact page.

If you'd like, just order the Ribbon Strips now, and when we get the other strip back, we could refund you.

Because of the first one that said they could be cut or trimmed, I guess I assumed that I would be able to do the project. It looks like the ribbon strips are indeed what I will need...I just read the FAQ's on them and I don't know how I missed them the first time, it has contact points and everything!

Anyways, thanks a lot for your super quick reply and awesome customer service, I will be returning them with a note ASAP.
