So, I just wanted to know how expensive it is to upgrade from regular definition signal, to high definition signal. Direct TV couldn't tell me ****, because their account information system was down.

Right now, its between Direct TV and DishNetwork.

Just wondering opinions on who thinks HD service is better.

So are you not even considering cable?

In Gainesville we've got Cox and they give you regular HD channels for free. In Lauderdale we have Comcast, but it might still be $5 a month for HD. Comcast has a lot more HD than Cox though.

Cable isn't an option out where he lives, it's satellite or nothing.

What channels do you want? I only really care about the local channels for sports, and my TV has an internal HD antenna so I get CBS, ABC, Fox, and NBC all in HD. I miss a few ESPN games in HD, but a lot of the good ones are on ABC anyway.

Yeah, Satellite or bust!

We're going with the new model Vizion 47" LCD. Awesome picture! Also picking up a PS3 tomorrow afternoon.

Now, Jordan mentioned to buy Monster HDMI cable, because its "zero oxygen & gold plated", and they'll run about 60 bucks.

So, I read somewhere that Monster cables are overated. Go with the "overated" brand, or just Phillips HDMI or something? I would buy from monoprice, but I have short patience & want 1080 PS3 tomorrow. Oh well, would just like some more opinions.

I'de like Discovery, National Geographic, ESPN, Fox Sports Net(All the cities), Big Ten Network, MTV(meh), and Spike(For UFC). Those are just off the top of the head, but you get the picture.

monster cables are overrated

if your HDMI run is 6feet or less you wont notice any difference between the cheaper cables and high end.

if you were doing 15+ foot runs, you may see a loss in quality or signal on the cheaper cables

buy it from monoprice or get the cheaper one

I have bought all my HDMI cables from newegg. Great pricing aon great prodcuts. Like mentioned before, no real need to buy the expensive Monster cables.

Had nothing but problems with dish network. Frequently lose the signal on our HD box, even when the weather is nice, guide seems to have to load multiple times every day taking 30 seconds or so, and the number of HD channels isn't that great. Also they keep raising our prices, we call and complain, and they just recommend us to cancel. So we are switching to cable the end of this week.

I would stay away from Dish.

Wow really? Everything is great with Dish here. I hardly ever lose signal unless it's storming, the only guide that loads is one of our boxes that we don't have a telephone line hooked up to and it loads one time for one minute every other day, and they have never raised our prices.

Do you go directly through Dish? I have mine through AT&T.

Have the at&t all in one package, bill is up to 140 a month (started at $100). Service just keeps getting worse and worse, and when I called to say I was switching to cable, they didn't offer to lower prices or give more services, just said go ahead. That was the same day i ordered cable....
