Alright I've pretty much decided the Scion is about ready to retire. After it's repaired fully inside and out I'm going to sell it and put that and some extra towards a new (to me) truck. I've pretty much narrowed it down to two at this point.

Went and looked today and from the outside they're both very nice looking trucks. Of course everyone knows the SS denotation backs up itself with some serious power in most cases, and this is one of them. 4WD/AWD is a must, and V8 is desired. Both meet these standards, but size is an issue..and I lean towards Chevys. It must fit in the garage, and on top of being higher stock, the F-150 has the FX4 "Off-Road" package on it. Only thing turning me off the Chevy is that it will need some work. An obvious rip in the leather of the driver's seat, dent in the tailgate, cracked bedliner, and in person the paint has some swirlage that would need some pro attention. It is all black interior though, all leather, supercharged, lower, more aggressive stance, and towing package. Any reason other than the obvious required work I should choose the Ford over the Chevy?

Which has better MPG? Personally I would go for the Silverado. My dad just got a brand new '09 and it's sweet.

Ford is 13 city, 17 highway. Chevy is 13 city, 17 highway. icon_razz.gif Big V8 engines. I'm not uber concerned about it, pretty steady income and no car payments only leaves gas and food when you get a free ride through college.

Go with the SS for sure. The Fords are slowwwww.
Just watch the tranny because of the supercharger added on there.

I also feel like the Ford should get way better gas mileage with the 4.6 icon_confused.gif

i dont know about that ss. i would rock one, but its possibly been beat on a lot, and the torn seat, swirly paint, and cracked bed liner means its not been taken care of too well

That's why I'm weary of the SS. I'm going to check them out and test drive them both. I really think the Chevy is worth the minor restoration work, but not worth 20k in it's current condition with the repair to the seat, dent in the tailgate, and horrible bedliner.

Looked around in our area on several sites ... the prices seem fair... I lean more towards the Chevy myself... I just like anything that is or has potential to be fast.

A lot of good trucks on craigslist too in our area as well..
Saw several SS'es on CL too

Ever thought of a Titan? Can get them cheap too now...

I've always been a chevy guy (until the explorer)... But I like the styling of the f150 better and the interior looks waaay nicer. Two different trucks tho, which way are you looking to mod it? Street or Offroad?

I think it's a 5.4 (not 100% but I'm pretty sure). I personally like the F150. The dash looks much better. Also, is that a tuner in the upper left of the F150?

It is a 5.4. My mom has the previous gen FX4, fun as hell to drive.

But do you want to race? or
Take it off road?

Not sure if it snows much wherever you are from, but in the winter the FX4 is a must. Plus, I will cut you a deal on my wheels/tires if you get the ford.

I'd go with the SS as you have WAY more places to light up. I'm not a fan of both consoles, but I like the ford better from a design point of view. Only issue with the ford is that it looks like 2.5 DIN stereo slot which means adapter plate (blech!). Overall, get the SS, throw a 2-3" drop with an Inferno Kit and you are golden!

I'd have to to go with the SS. icon_cool.gif Also did someone add a supercharger to that SS your looking at? I'm almost positive that they did not come from the factory supercharged. icon_confused.gif

Oh, I was just reading off the dealer's site and it said 4.6. The v8 options are 4.6 and 5.4 for the Fords

Carfax says the Ford is a 5.4L. Not really looking into anything but visual mods and maybe a few minor performance mods (I/H/E) whichever way I go. Once my car is out of the shop (end of week) I'm going to go test drive each and check them out in more detail (while the dealer is open).

Not sure it this matters at all. But any rebates that you get, you still have to pay taxes on. icon_sad.gif

Its really what you are looking for in a truck.

Chevy:
Faster off the line
Faster up to speed
Not as good for towing
Not as good for hauling

Ford:
Slower
Great for hauling
Great for towing
Will need to get a programmer (Edge etc) to correct slow shifts and slow accelleration (roughly $300)
The 04-05 5.4L has known issues with injector failures (now warrantied up to 100K miles)
known issues 04-05 with exhaust manifold leaks
04-06 has cam phaser knock...doesnt hurt engine, just annoying.

The SS can tow 7500 and haul 1496 lbs.
It might not be as much as the Ford's 9500 lb towing capacity, but not bad by any means.

I won't need to pull anything more than a jetski icon_razz.gif so towing isn't a huge deal to me. No biggie on the rebates PwrRngr, don't really foresee getting any anyway.

just noticed the comment regarding the tuner in the top left of dash on the F-150....Yes that is an Edge Evolution, same as I have in my rig and they work wonders.

I dont think you could go wrong with either truck icon_wink.gif its really up to what you like better...

I use my for hunting/fishing/camping so I know I am going to beat it up a little...it has quite a few scratches etc and doesnt bug me that much....I do like the look of the SS better for a street truck though icon_wink.gif

O snap. Ok for now, the SS has been put on the back burners. Someone else's misfortune has benefited me for once instead of the other way around. I hate that it was one of my good friends, but I'm too excited to be sad now. About 2 weeks ago a friend had a bad quad racing accident and broke both legs and his back. He's now getting out of quad racing and into off-roading. So he's selling his truck and quad. I love his truck..with a passion...

Ya that s10 is worth 4000-5000 at the most. Unfortunately people don't care what mods you have and will only pay what the vehicle is worth.
