So I'm getting some money, and plan on buying a DSLR.

Would like opinions....Nikon (Pref. the D40x), or Canon(Rebel XTi)

More leaning towards Canon, due to the fact that third-party lenses will still autofocus, where as the D40x's wont.

Opinions?

I've had no problems with Canon, so I'm sticking with that (upgrading from the Rebel XT to 50D when it comes out in a month)

But, seems like there are fans of both, with few reasons for why they like it better - things like "fits my hands better" and things like that. I've used the XTi, very nice camera, so...take what you will.

Nikon all the way. Every lens ever made for Nikon works on all Nikon camera's.

Nikon D60 here, love the thing, I'm still learning how to use it to its full potential, but awesome camera, takes awesome pictures. And Nikon has a awesome lineup of lenses.

Get whatever is cheaper. At your skill level it won't make any difference.

Say you start shooting for the NFL, switch over to Canon.

I've held and shot with both brands, actually many different brands when I was deciding what I wanted.

The quality is the same, if not better on the Canon.

Just go into a camera store and start picking them up and playing with them.

Exactly. I don't know how many times I've seen this discussed.

Go put your hands on each of them, Prices will be about the same when it comes down to it.

I met a guy who loved his Canon, then he held my D70 with the MB grip, and he fell in love just because of the way it felt in his hands.

Change not 4 words in that sentence and it is epic hahahahaha.

But I agree. Go to a store and toy around with all of them. Personal opinion is basically what it comes down to. You aren't going to be no pro shooter so really you won't notice a difference I bet.

canon just pwned all camera manufacturers with the 5D Mark II... goddamn that is one gorgeous metallic ****-piece. the images and video are RAW, without any type of post-enhancement

EDIT: and here's the raw images to make you **** bricks:

What do you expect with $3,000 worth of equipment?

Sure the 5D Mark II is a great camera, but he's a beginner and there is no way he's going to spend that kind of money.

I'm telling ya man, we've had this conversation before. Just pick up a used Nikon for $300-$400 with a 50mm lens and a telephoto lens and go out and have fun with it.

Sure they do. I've got a 20D and I have tons of fun with it. I'm definitely a beginner when it comes to technique, but I know quite a bit about the camera and Canon in general.

I agree with Tim. Go find a cheap, not state-of-the-art DSLR and learn how to use it.

Remember ImagoX's photos? Bottom line Rebel DSLR. You don't need a fancy camera to take good photos.
