i wanted to know how hard it is to change spark plugs and spark plug wires. i was told by a mechanic shop place it would cost me $250 to replace them but i want to try it myself.

how hard is a job like this to do and can i do it myself?

Depends on the location of the spark plugs and where the wires run. It can be hard, but can be easy. I would think you could do it on your own if you have any "skills."

Just make sure to either change things one at a time or label, take a picture or do something so that you don't mess up the firing order of the wires and what not.

Anyone with basic engine knowledge can do it. I would never pay $250 for changing them.

I've seen vehicles that I just wouldn't want to touch... $250 sounds like a couple hours labor, and parts. Typical rate around here...

it's so easy to replace them... depending on the vehicle, i mean... and not a couple of hours, i can change spark plugs and wires in my old car in about 30 minutes if the engine was cool...

I have done so many sets it's retarded. Including the ones i do almost daily in Auto TEch class. It;s easy you need the special socket to make things 200 times easier and then the parts. Other wise it's a bit of figuring out and then doing.

I would never pay to have them done. Not a single dime.

Yeah I noticed that too,but the mechanic part wasn't actually specified and since there are various other types of mechanics besides an Automotive mechanic,I assumed that he certainly wasn't an Auto mechanic asking such a question. icon_lol.gif icon_smile.gif
